Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Here and Now World

Customer Review: A world of difference from the original? Not really
Summary: 4 Stars

Monopoly Here and Now World Edition has fun components. Tokens are six from 20 created to commemorate each city on the board; houses and hotels are fun little sculptures based on real buildings and abodes.

The infamous Internet vote for which cities to include means world-class places like Venice, Vienna, Moscow, Munich, San Francisco, Dubai and Buenos Aires missed out, while the positioning of others on the board is very much open to debate, but that's part of the fun.

Greasy piles of banknotes being replaced by a credit card may or may not be an improvement, depending on your world view. But it's certainly novel, if you have a head for numbers, because there's no way to check your balance without inserting the card in the bank machine -- which you will soon grow tired of doing, especially if you're the nominated banker.

Monopoly is always going to be Monopoly. I don't care for the over-colourful and crowded board design, but this is still the world's best property trading game at the end of the day.

Customer Review: a gift for my niece
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this game for my 13 year old niece. I know she likes Monopoly and that all she had was a "fake" version with a horse theme. She likes the game and likes not having to figure out the money. She was very excited to find out what tokens came with her game and was happy with her selection. She loves the different hotels & houses.

I found the constant inserting & removing of cards to be tedious and prefer the paper money, but my niece really likes it. Math is not her favorite subject, so I can understand her enthusiasm. However, having the electronic bank means she has less thinking to do. On the other hand, being able to see her balance on every turn helped her to make smarter decisions about her purchases, something she didn't really do in paper money versions of the game.

She would probably give it 4 stars but I'm giving it 3.

Customer Review: My boys and I had a BLAST with this game!
Summary: 5 Stars

I kept trying to find a friend that owned this game before I bought it, but no one had it. The reviews on the site were very helpful in that regard. My sons and I played this Christmas Day and LOVED it! We're all gadget freaks, so the electronic banking was really fun. We played three times in a row just so we could each be the banker. My boys are teens, so they loved the fact that we were dealing in millions rather than the old paper dollars that never seemed realistic. The only drawback at all for us was the random choice of tokens (movers) in the box. We each wanted to try and get some of the other tokens available for the game, especially the koala bear and Egyptian mask. But that would not hold us back from recommending this game to everyone!

Customer Review: digital banking device has a SHORT lifespan
Summary: 3 Stars

We have only played the game three (3) time. The digital banking device that keeps track of your balance stopped working in the middle of game play. So I pressed the reset button - Nothing. We put in fresh batteries - Nothing. Then everyone quit, because no one wanted to play with real paper money (from one of our various other sets). I then sent an email to Amazon website to alert them of the problem. I brought it during the lightening deals for $25 plus tax. I am just hoping the set I got was just defective, and not something that is worldwide. I would like Monopoly Here and Now World replaced ASAP! I still don,t know the difference between M and K. I wished it was in $ (Million & Thousands).

Customer Review: Fun educational twist on an old favorite
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like the updated equipment in this game, bringing Monopoly into the modern world. The banking machine made keeping track of money so much easier, with no disagreements about who has/had how much cash, and really empowering the banker. The kids seem very interested in the cities and where they are -- my quibble is that the cities are not organized logically by country or even by continent, so what is the point of that? Hard to understand why they would go through the trouble of a total redesign and not be more careful about that kind of organization. Other than that, I like the updated rules, especially the mortgage "auctions," and am a total fan of the banking machine.
