Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Here and Now World

Customer Review: Worth Every Penny and More!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own both the Here and Now Editions (US and World) and this version (World) has many new goodies up from the Here and Now US Edition. The houses and hotels each have pieces from the 7 continents which i thought was awesome since the US edition didn't have that. The game tokens are bigger than previous Monopoly games so their easier to grab. The electronic banking was an excellent idea in my opinion as it does speed up the game and i urge everyone to not listen to the bad reviews here about how the electronic banking was a bad idea, because it was a good idea. The title deeds, community chest and chance cards are bigger than in the US version and i liked that. I also like the fact that in the plastic container where you store everything for putaway they added slots kind of like the ones where the paper money use to go and can now be use to hold the title deeds so finding a title deed is quicker than before as you can designate one slot for each color group, and one slot for the Utilities, and the last slot for the Monopoly Rail, Monopoly Air, Monopoly Cruise, Monopoly Space.... Me and my neighbor played for about 5-6 hours last night and we have a blast... so the new version is worth getting, at a reasonable price.

One thing i didn't like was the advertisement about the game tokens being random in every box because that was not true for me. I purchased two sets, one for me and one for my best friend (from Amazon i might add) and gave one set to her last night as my Christmas present to her. We talked about how we would trade tokens if one of us wanted some of the others tokens. She opened her's up and told me she got the camel, boomerang, sumo wrestler, nascar racing car, windmill, and the Inca Face. I got excited because i wanted to get pieces like the Chinese Dragon, and the Pyramid, and when i opened my box i got the same exact six pieces as my best friend did, so the boxes were not random like the advertising says. If i had gotten 2-3 tokens in my box that she got in her box and then the other 3-4 tokens were something else, ok it's understandable but not all 6. That's basically telling me that it's not random and if you want to have different tokens you have to keep buying monopoly games until you find the one(s) you want, which means they want more money out of you, which is not gonna happen because i'm not gonna buy 20 or 30 boxes just to find the pyramid and Chinese dragon. Another thing i was dissapointed about was that it's only for 6 players. The Here and Now US Edition was made for up to 8 players and the Monopoly Deluxe Edition has for up to 11 Players. So here's the summary...

Pros:

* Electronic Banking speeds up the game and the deal button adds to the excitement...

* No Paper Money

* Bigger Cards and Tokens

Cons:

* Tokens are not completely randomized as advertised on box, bought 2 sets and they both had the same exact tokens. Wasn't very happy about that. :(

* Up to 6 Players when it should have been 8-10 with my idea of a future release of the Here and Now Deluxe World Edition with up to 12 Players and a timer on the electronic banking machine for timed games.

Customer Review: 5 Months Later and Kids Still Love Playing
Summary: 5 Stars

My three children ages 13, 10, and 7 love playing Monopoly for some reason that baffles me. I was never a big Monopoly fan until I saw how much enjoyment my kids got out of the game. We have the classic version but I had my eye on this game because I love anything with an International theme. I was worried about how well the electronic banking machine would work and go over with the kids but my worries turned out to be unfounded.

The kids love the electronic banking machine and take turns as banker (based on another reviewer's suggestion) to keep the banking transparent. I also suspect they just want to play with the "toy" that makes satisfying sound effects during each transaction. The machine is quite durable and still works perfectly after much rough handling. As far as what another reviewer said about the machine in the World version being slower than the regular version, we only have the World version and it seems to run at a fine speed.

I find that the game is slightly more educational than the original. I like the fact that the properties are more realistically priced. My younger children are getting more familiar with the concept of thousands and millions. I also think it allows them to get used to the idea of electronic banking and remembering to check their balance before they spend. We enjoy reading facts about the cities from around the world and admit to never having heard of a couple of the cities such as Gdynia. Finally, since we have to spread our games over 2-3 days, this version seems to be tidier when left mid-game than the original version.

Customer Review: Cash Is Better
Summary: 3 Stars

When deciding to purchase this, I though the electronic banking concept would be faster, more accurate, and less cumbersome than using Monopoly money. In my experience it has none of these advantages.

For some reason, they designed the banking unit to pause a couple seconds before and after every transaction - it must do the actual transaction instantly, but stops to make a cash-register-like sound. All player-to-player deals must go through the unit. You need the unit to check your exact balance. It really becomes a bottleneck to the pace and hampers deal-making. Assigning a non-playing banker may help.

Accuracy of the unit is not in question, but making sure the cards go in the desired way (debit vs. credit) requires the banker to pay close attention to whose card is whose, and the nature of the transaction. Relatively small color codes on the cards makes this job more difficult. Finally, keying in the data must also be correct - numbers and denomination - and only the banker sees the result. Not transparent like handing over cash between players or banker. I'm sure the unit itself is accurate, it's the error-prone nature of the transaction process that leads to mistakes. The banking unit could have been designed better in this regard.

In my opinion, forcing all of the game's action through one person (the banking unit operator) is just not as fun as dealing with cash. The game itself is fine, with its interesting selection of properties and inflated currency.

Customer Review: Back to the simple things in life!
Summary: 5 Stars

We first played the Here and Now version while visiting family in Virginia during the February snow storm (we live in Louisiana- imagine that!). This version is so much fun!! We purchased it for our family days after arriving back home from Virginia. The electronic credi/debit card makes the money exchange so much easier and faster than the original version with the paper money. Also the high dollar amount on the debit/credit card and the high dollar property value makes this version interesting. We have actually researched d information on various countries on the monopoly board, so it is educational in that aspect as well. We look forward to playing and have set aside Family Game Night..even our 17 year old likes to play with us. He has also played it with his friends when they visit. Our son will soon be leaving for college and my husband and I often look at each other and smile as we acknowledged how special our family moments are together...thanks Monopoly! Our 17 year old son and 9 year old daughter continue to find wonderful ways to stay connected and this game has only enhanced that connection. We have also played with friends when they visit and several have purchased this product for their families as well!
Enjoy!! You won't be disappointed.

Customer Review: Great version of the classic board game
Summary: 4 Stars

I always loved the game of Monopoly; it remains a classic after all these years and generation after generation play it, the game remains fun to this day. When I recently got to play Monopoly Here and Now World I noticed a few things have changed, you now play and pay with credit cards for one and the amounts of money are measured in millions and thousands instead of hundreds. The included banker unit is easy to figure out and ends up saving time plus you never run out of paper money anymore, I found it quite nice (you need to buy batteries separately for it). You buy cities like New York and Tokyo instead of for example Pennsylvania Avenue and what used to be the railroads are now air, cruise etc... This is different as well. On the community chest and chance cards are some interesting facts which weren't there before. Oh and you don't know which movers you'll get because there are 24 and you get 6 random ones in each box, they're quite original and look cool.

I found this new version of Monopoly very appealing and made the game more of a current one adapted to today. The game is just as good as the original Monopoly; it's the same game with a few changes. Out of the more recent versions this one turns out to be my favorite one.
