Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Here & Now Limited EditionCustomer Review: Here and now limited Summary: 5 Stars
I don't like this edition as much because of the property choices. Letting America "chose" is just pandering to the masses. And the most populated areas are guaranteed to win.
There are a lot of sports stadiums. Why? You can't build houses in them, I know, I know, you build next to them, but I would rather have bona fide places. I don't like these sports stadiums. Worse are natural wonders, who's going to build houses in the middle of nowhere? It would have been best to let a professional game designer design the game. I made a mistake when I bought this on sale, I should have known that it was on sale because it was poor selling.
My second gripe is that the millions of paper money value is confusing. You have inflation, but buying a stadium for a few million bucks? That's not realistic either because stadiums are like a few hundred million bucks now!
I guess the only saving grace of this is it introduces different American landmarks to a young generation of kids.
My final verdict is that they should redo this and give some proper thought to what properties to include. Times Square, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Silicon Valley, etc. are a few good places to start.
Customer Review: Fun for groups, hard if you've memorized the classic edition Summary: 4 Stars
As an owner of over 30 monopoly sets, I've played some pretty bad versions. The here & now edition is not one of them. I enjoyed the national locations rather than confinement to a single city that I've never been to. The updated tokens are great, too. I did find myself wondering why PB didn't decided to go global with the locations, though, as the current economy is so globally dependent... Doesn't really detract from the game, though.
One problem I had (and the only reason this gets 4 stars) is that the money was cumbersome if you're very used to the classic denominations. All of my sets except this one use the standard 1-5-10-20-50-100-500 scheme, whether it's dollars, galactic credits, hobbit money, whatever. Switching to large money values is great, but I think they should have at least left the 1-5-etc scheme, so the money could have been $1000, $5000, $10000 etc. This would help tie the old versions with the updated-ness of the new version, allowing a connection between those of us who have been playing the classic sets for years and the people who are just starting.
Overall, nicely executed idea that could have used a bit more globalization and more familiar money.
Customer Review: A great game to find out others value standing ! Summary: 5 Stars
Just bought this product and played it yesterday with my family. Well this time we actually followed the rules, but it became like if the person owns properties in the first two block(From Go->Free parking) via trading to reach monopoly, and have no more properties at other place, they are pretty much over, as their rent is not even comparable to the 3rd block or the 4th one. I know they each have different land values, but that's how my game turned out to be, with two persons holding the first two block, two more holding the third block, and me with the last block. Maybe I played it wrong, but it would be interesting if they can mixed the properties around a bit ;] also, they should make more houses ! we played to a point where we have no houses, and can't build hotel to replace houses too. I know the rules let you take down house, but it would be nice to have few more houses around ;)
Over all, fun, and you get to see how everyone's value would be while you try to trade properties privately :D
PS. YOU do have to buy all the properties you land on, so you will have something valueable that others may wants.
Customer Review: I'm Luvin it!! Summary: 5 Stars
I like the new updated version of the game, and I agree with the comments about the money, but in all honesty it is the same as the old game...they are just in thousands and millions now. The money is the same color as the traditional version. 10000 is the dollar...50000 is the five...100000 is the ten...200000 is the twenty.....500000 is the fifty....1mill is the hundred.....5mill is the 500.
My mom has issues with the money too, but she is learning. Actually...you just add like 4 zeros to each property to get it in the Here and Now price.
I really love the game though and my only complaint is that Texas has such cheap properties...What's up with that? Well, at least Houston Beat Dallas...that is a state thing and obviously not important. Anyway, it was fun seeing all the new places, and actually encourages me to visit them....
They really should make a global version though....They may just have issues with what country..city....whatever would take the spot of Boardwalk...that could vary between countries though, if they sell monopoly in other countries...
Great for kids of all ages!
Customer Review: Good game BUT too long! Summary: 4 Stars
I kind of like the classic version of Monopoly. In the Here and Now edition everything is more pricey but you get more money to start with - this is where I don't like it - You are put in a bad situation because you are handling too many pieces of monopoly money.
The new design of the board is nice and attractive. Also the metal pieces are a plus.
Monopoly is a great game and I love it! only bad thing is it takes a LONG time to finish the game.
Compared to the original version, this version is more colorful, attractive and unlike the plain board of the classic monopoly this one is better in terms of its pictures, and color.
For those who do not own a monopoly: This is a great version to get especially when the price is not significantly higher than the classic. You will love the colors.
OH I almost forgot... the modern attractions/ property is great also! Instead of the old properties (which some do not exist anymore) you get modern places such as Times Square, Fenway Park, and JFK airport.
