Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition

Customer Review: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
Summary: 1 Stars

The Good: My 7 year old son likes playing with the credit card 'machine' and is learning decimal arithmetic.

The Bad: This is an atrocious twist on the classic game. The prices are updated by multiplying the usual prices in the classic game by 10,000. The credit card can't show you your balance and you're left guessing what you can afford. Can anyone say 'credit card fraud' ;-) Every time I pay rent I have no idea how much my kid is actually taking off my card.

The Ugly: Everything is sponsored. Visa branded the cards and the machine. The properties are sponsored by sports arenas and tourist attractions.....

So I don't recommend this...but if you must buy it for kid who really really likes the idea, see "The Good".

Customer Review: The White House is for sale. ( : > ( )
Summary: 5 Stars

My 13-year-old son received this as a birthday gift and we just finished playing our first game.

Newly updated with current tokens, revised and relevant properties, I found it a bit troubling that the White House is for sale. The cynics among us might appreciate the sad truth behind current Washington politics but I think irony like this is best left off of this family-oriented board game. Hasbro, what were you thinking?!

Aside from that, we love this game. The electronic devise took a few turns to get used to. Using opposite sides of the device for debits (red) and credits (green) is a really nice touch! The game still takes a while to play but it's so much easier without having to deal with paper money.

Customer Review: Nice to not have to deal with paper money
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my son's 7th birthday, and we had a blast playing it. He had played Monopoly Jr. before, but never "real" Monopoly, and he loved it. I like that it sort of gives kids the whole concept of a debit card. My husband was banker, and although it seemed cumbersome to have the credit tracking system, he said he much preferred it over paper money. The only thing I didn't like was that without paper money, you have to keep asking the banker what your balance is because you can't get an idea of what your worth is without the paper money in front of you. It is kind of interesting to play with such high value properties, too, after playing the classic game for so many years. We liked the cool, modern playing pieces. Fun was had by all! :)

Customer Review: Slightly Dissapointed...
Summary: 2 Stars

I was so excited when I first saw this toy advertised! My husband and I have a small collection of Monopoly games, so thius seemed like the perfect gift this Christmas. We opened before Christmas though- we just couldnt wait! I really liked that the game was so much less messy without all the paper money. The problem I had with it was that my husband, the banker, always knew how much money I had, and I felt a loit less in control of my money. We ended up passing the "credit card machine" back and forth and that helped a little. It was just not as interactive without the paper money and the game got boring really fast. Maybe we will try it out again and change our minds, but for now it will sit in the game closet with the rest of the monopoly games.

Customer Review: Banking is a Drudge
Summary: 1 Stars

Just played this game last night with the in-laws. They're great -- the game isn't. Every player gets a "debit" card to use instead of the paper money used in the original game. It sounds like a great idea. But reality quickly gets in the way. The modified banking system not only slows down game play, but it leads to less player interaction.

In addition, unless individual plays keep mental note of how much is left on their card, they must go back to the banker to see how much the card has left.

Overall, the electronic banking was a detraction rather than an enhancement.Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition
