Toys and Games Reviews of Monopoly Deluxe Edition

Customer Review: Monopoly does not have to be boring!
Summary: 5 Stars

Monopoly is a great and fun game to play with a group of friends. Although there are dozens of beautiful versions of this game it will be wise to own this version if you're new to the game and especially if you play it a lot. The tokens are very durable plus it has two sets of money, a money tray, a property stand, wooden houses and hotels... the works. Now if you are among the many who hate monopoly because it "never ends", find it boring or just want to spice it up a little here are some home rules that my friends and I use. Trust me, we can complete up to three games in a couple of hours.

Optional Rules:

1. When exchanging properties with another player you may ask or offer (or both) a determined number of turns in which if you land, not pass, on the exchanged properties your opponent cannot charge you. This will allow you more freedom in exchanging higher valued properties for lesser ones. We usually keep it between 5 and 10 landings.

2. Partnerships. You may establish a partnership with an opponent and both keep their properties. Example: You have Boardwalk, someone else has Park Place. You "give" your Board Walk to your new "buddy" but if an opponent lands on Board Walk you collect the rent; of course if they land on Park Place he collects the rent. None of you pay rent to the other if you land on each others "half" property. You both must agree on how you will purchase houses. If one partner goes bankrupt the partner will keep the property. Only advanced players should try this rule. We opt not to use it anymore. It made the game TOO short.

3. Play The Market. Just like if you were in Wall Street. It's simple. When you pass GO! you roll the dice (only if you wish to play the market). If you roll 2, 3, 4 the market is down and you loss 100 of your GO! money. If you roll 5, 6, 7 the market is up and you win 400 instead of the usual 200. If you roll 8, 9,10,11,12 you brake even and do not loss or win money. Believe me, the odds of doubling your GO! money is VERY high.

4. Bet on the wheel. Make a sort of ruler out of carton. Mark in large numbers from 2 to 12. When it is an opponent's turn to roll you may bet from 5 to 200 maximum on any one or two numbers (the 200 is the limit so if you chose two numbers you must divide the 200 among the two numbers). If you win you double your money if you lose, well you lose.

5. Race. You may at the beginning of the game chose to place an amount of money, say 50 each player, and who ever passes go first wins. Also if you happen to land on the same spot as another player you must, not an option, race this player for the amount chose at the beginning of the game. The player who passes the spot where the race began wins the money.

6. Loans. A player may ask the bank for a loan. 500 maximum in increments of 50. The player must pay 20% interests on whatever he still owes when he passes GO! (It does not matter how near your wore to GO! when you made the loan) Example: A 500 loan will pay 100 interests at GO! but you will still owe the 500 if you have not made payments in your previous turns. If you had paid 100 you would only pay 80 interests. You can't ask of another loan until you have paid your previous one. Can't pay the interests. Well, same rules apply. Start selling your stuff or declare bankruptcy.

7. For more optional rules on how to use doubles read my review on the Pokémon Monopoly Edition.

You might want to consider having a player to act only as the bank to keep the game flowing.

These are some rules you may want to check out. They are FUN. But no matter what happens keep the game clean. Cheating will only mess up an otherwise good time. If you don't have a Monopoly game give this one a chance. If played with the right friends it is one of the greatest classic games of all times.

Description of Monopoly Deluxe Edition

You'll get classic fun in deluxe style with Deluxe Edition Monopoly. All the features of this special edition are unique: the handy "carousel" holds the Title Deed Cards - so you can keep a close eye on the market! The Banker's tray keeps the redesigned cash on hand. Wood houses and hotels are built to last. The redesigned Community Chest and Chance cards add a touch of class. And last, chugging around the bend, is the special token - the ever-popular Monopoly game train. In all, it's a grand Deluxe Edition of the grandest game ever...the Monopoly game! For 2 to 10 players. Game includes: game board; Community Chest and Chance cards; title deed cards and card carousel; 11 tokens; play money and banker's tray; wood houses and hotels; dice.
Sure, this real estate trading game has been the world's most popular board game for more than six decades, but what makes this edition "deluxe"? For one thing, it brings back the sturdy wooden (not plastic) houses and hotels of years gone by. It also features an extra gold-colored train token, a handy holder for the Title Deed cards, and a banker's tray to keep your cash on hand. The cash, Community Chest, and Chance cards are all newly redesigned. And the 19-inch-by-19-inch board is stamped with a golden "Deluxe" arch. Featuring the original Atlantic City landmarks like Boardwalk and Park Place, this version is for the serious Monopoly lovers on your gift list.
