Customer Review: On Earth, no one can hear them scream

What it is:
1. A multipurpose alien spaceship, which allows kids to create different types of aliens using the half-molds provided, and save them in the transparent pods.
2. Tubs of "meteor mud" to make the desired alien imprint.
3. Tubes of "lunar lava" gel to make the aliens.
4. Implements, with which you can probe, flatten and otherwise annihilate the alien population.
5. A light-up display with a volcano which can be used to squish aliens. (Batteries included)
Pros:
1. Very easy to use and set up, and even smaller kids can use it with supervision.
2. The "meteor mud" (A modeling clay/play-doh combination) is reusable.
3. Can make up to 90 different aliens
4. Fun to dissect, squish and mutilate, especially when their innards are still gooey and runny.
5. Unlike Ripley's Aliens, these are created non-invasively, painlessly and relatively mess-free.
Cons:
1. The aliens are itsy bitsy and teenie weenie (yellow polka dot bikinis optional)
2. There's only one creation chamber, and each alien takes five minutes to set, so there's a lot of waiting time, which seems longer when several kids are playing "mad scientist".
3. Some aliens are harmed in the extraction process from the "meteor mud"
4. The novelty wears off pretty quickly, but should buy you a few hours of peace and quiet while your progeny create and destroy defenseless alien life forms.
Recommended for children who like to squish things, future astronauts, budding mad scientists, or anybody past the age of five.

Customer Review: Keeps kids entertained for a while

I gave this toy to my nephew for Christmas after reading overall good reviews, and to my surprise, it surpassed my and my sister's expectations. My nephew used to need a lot of attention from an adult to keep him entertained, and he would tire of toys or games quickly. But he spent days playing for an hour or two at a time with this set on his own, with minimal adult supervision. My sister thought it was great and bought sets for my nephew's friends' birthdays. Refills are expensive from amazon sellers, but I was able to find them at reasonable prices from Michael's and use their coupons. I am sure that eventually my nephew grew out of it, but my sister got our money's worth from this toy.
Not a lot of educational value, I thought, but anything that can keep a highly active kid entertained indoors for an hour is worth a try. And it is not like being glued to a tv or video game indoors. It does allow the kid to play with his imagination in experimenting with different color mixes, control how much goo to pour of each color for the desired effect, and learn the patience required to wait for the goo to dry into a shape that can be lifted out of the mold.
Customer Review: Creative, Cool and Fun

This is a fun and cool toy. More creative than play-doh. Even the space ship is well thought out. There is a receptacle for every piece and tool. There are a lot of combinations you can do to create different shapes of aliens. You create the molds by pressing the aliens into the Meteor Mud (seems like a regular play-doh). Then you pour the Lunar lava into the mold. It will take around 5 minutes for the lunar lava to solidify into a gel. Make sure to cover the mold with a rolled flat Meteor Mud or it will not set properly. No heat needed to set. You can also combined different colors to create colorful aliens. Since the mold is made up of play-doh like material, it is very easy to remove the aliens. The stuff are non-toxic. The only warning is if you have allergy from wheat as it contains some wheat. Each bottle of lunar lava is 2 oz. There are several bottles included and you can makes a lot of aliens with them. This is a pretty nice gift for kids 5 years and above.

The one thing my five-year-old son asked Santa for Christmas was Martian Matter, and the Martian Matter Mega Set did not dissapoint! He absolutely loves picking out the heads and bodies, making the molds, squeezing in the colors, and then putting them in their seats in the ship or in the pod -- or dissecting them and checking out the gooey guts. The Mega Set rocks because it has that light-up pod and you can even squeeze the Play-Doh through a mold to make lava for the volcano. It is really not very messy at all, as long as you can handle Play-Doh. All the parts pack together nicely in the ship so you don't lose pieces and it doesn't take a lot of room to store. Best of all, the aliens only last a few days before they dry up so you can keep making more aliens without filling your house with them. Basically if your kid likes Play-Doh and/or aliens, you can't go wrong with Martian Matter!Customer Review: My 5yo & I *love* this toy!

I think this is a great value considering it is heavily discounted right now. My son and I make the aliens together. We just got it today and weve made at least half a dozen little aliens. I like how the spaceship holds the majority of the alien supplies. They have places inside and outside the spaceship to put the alien supplies. Although it comes w/"bonus" supplies so you end up having two extra larva bottles and mud to store but thats easy enough. It even has places to all the smaller pieces and tools! I dont know about you but I usually try to limit toys that have tons of peices.
The little "pod" has a cool led blue light and it really makes the neon aliens "pop".
It's not as messy as I had feared. I think if the child did it on their own w/adult supervision, it could possibly help w/fine motor skills!
Overall we love this toy!
