Toys and Games Reviews of LAZERTAG Multiplayer Battle System

Customer Review: Fun for adults too
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought 2 sets about a year ago for a camping trip with my husband, brother and myself. It was tons of fun and was used in an open space with plently of srubs and a few trees for cover. played with 3 people, it was the perfect set up.

We had no problems with the sensors not picking up shots when we used the outside setting (we never tried indoors). We also played on days when we had full sun, over cast and we played at night. We stayed in a comfortable range of vison had no problems with hitting targets, I would say we were in a space about 150 yards by 250 yards.

The guns however do make a lot of noise, this could be a good or a bad thing depending on your useage. We were playing within and through much of the camp sites but since the park was empty noise was not an issue, however during the weekend, when it was more crowded we felt too inconsiterate to continue playing with others near by. On the plus side the sound made it more fun to find your opponent when they weren't visable through the bushes, since you could still hear were shots came from. This made game play more realistic. It also helps to prevent cheating since you can hear if someone restarts the game.

In additions, sensor lights up when you get hit so your opponates know if they are hitting you are not. And a perk for you (if you are the best of the players in your group) is the sensor stays lit when the player is out, that means that the lesser players won't be able to claim they are out just to get you to come closer and get in a cheep shot.

Most of the features are well worth the money. It vibrates with hits and shots and the reload feature is pretty cool. But the life meter is little hard to read. once you are familar with the gun it's easy but you will have the unfair advantage over those who have never played with you.

I've seen in a few reviews people complain about the battery life. I used the guns for 2 trips this summer, over about a 4 day period (for each trip) we probably used them for about 10 hours. We did not have to change the batteries once.

The only down side I found was the weight, it wasn't so bad if you took the front part off to shorten it but then you lost the super shot feature. When leaving the front part on I found that it to be very front heavy and was a little ruff on the wrist because of it. It made one handed play difficult.

Over all it was an awesome investment for a little camping fun with whoever may join me on my many trips.

Customer Review: What the Kids Love and Dad Doesn't
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased 2 sets of the LAZERTAG Multiplayer Battle System for Christmas for my 11 and 5 year old boys. I have played the old vest systems, but have never been an enthusiast, so I cannot comment on the finer points - many other reviewers have.

What the boys (and they are all boy) love:

1. Attacking each other with a parent sanctioned weapon. This form of entertainment taps into a basic, primal instinct. When we have 4 boys playing at once there is much screaming and laughter. Every boy who has gotten their hands on the gun has loved it.
2. Noise, noise, noise.
3. Running around the house and outside in one game
4. Working on teams, especially against Dad
5. The equipment withstands their abuse

What Dad does not love:
1. Did not come with a reachable batter system. Something with this much battery need, I compare it to Wii controllers, should come with batteries and a charger. Since each gun requires 6 AA batteries that are not included, I invested another $120 or so on rechargeable batteries and a charger (side note: Amazon has very good info on rechargeable batteries [...]. I do agree with other reviewers that battery life is very good, so gripe is more about the additional cost and managing the hassle of charging 24 batteries. Batteries cost the review 1 ½ stars.
2. Noise, noise, noise. It may make the game pointless from the kids point of view, but I would like to have a switch to turn off the sound.
3. The targeting game only works with CRT. As mentioned by other reviewers it should be either sold an accessory or compatible with LCD. In its current form it just adds cost with no value for all of us LCD owners. Another option would be targets that could be placed at a distance; something that would make the gun useful when you do not have the opponent. This cost the review the other half star.

Since I bought this system to entertain the kids in an active way, and it is definitely both active and entertaining, I give it the thumbs up.

Customer Review: FUN for kids with NO video games or TVs
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading another review on this product { and reading about it in a main weekly magazine }.... I bought this set of laser guns for my 12 yr old for xmas.
Right away, he and his younger brother were running around having a blast { pun intended :-) }.
As noted before, it gets the fun AWAY from the TV set and outside or around your hallways.
A great feature is that there is NO lying about getting shot or not getting shot. The gun itself indicates when you gun 'hit' and actaully loses energy. { This is shown with little side lights indicating your guns 'health'... starts with around 5 lights, losing a light with each 'hit' .... until no lights.. then the gun STOPS working. }
This feature eliminates any arguments that could accrue .... " I HIT YOU !! ... NOOO YOU DIDN'T !!! ... { parents can relate, i'm sure. }

If not for kids... the guns work great!
Bigger kids can have just as much fun with them.

I would recommend rechargeable batteries .... OR be sure to get the kids to remember to switch the power to 'off'.

Durability I would say is something to be aware of, only due to it being plastic and even though it hasn't happened yet, extra care when playing. Meaning, don't drop on the ground or leave in the rain. You of course run around with them, but treat them carefully so that everything still works good. If this is noted, it should continuously work as it should.

Overall, lots of fun.
Works great... and as mentioned... no TV required!
Have fun :-)

Customer Review: Great Fun for Boys and Girls (and Mom and Dads too)
Summary: 5 Stars

We got these for Christmas from Santa. He left them for the little fellow who is 8 yrs old. He loves going to battle with dad and he usually wins!! Turns out little gals like these too and our little gal who is 9 yrs old loves dueling with her brother. Guess she has lots of anger locked up against the little monster and this is a great way to let it out....

Anyway, we were very impressed with the quality of the toys. Work great both indoors and out and they are a big hit. Mom even enjoys playing a few rounds with the kids. They have sound as well as lights and and even vibrate when you get hit and when you cock the gun. Let the kids win once in a while or if you are a kid let your parents win occassionally.

We are considering buying another set or two so we can invite the kids friends over to play teams. Each gun allows you to select which team (1 or 2) you want to be on and this way you aren't affected by your teamates fire and with multiple sets you can have as many people on each team as you like. Solo mode is also available on each gun so you can shoot or be shot by anyone.

Guns also allow you to play a video shooting game on TV and that part only gets so-so reviews from the little fellow but that isn't why we got them. It is probably a fun game but it must be much more fun beating up on mom and dad.

Great fun and great quality for any price. Man, those chinese must work cheap....

Customer Review: One of the best Christmas gifts this year
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought two sets (four guns total). I was worried they might not hold up, but they are GREAT! My kids (ages 8, 12 and 16 -- girls and boys) had a lot of fun inside and outside with these. They are still going strong after a month of steady and none-too-gentle use.

They have pretty good range and accuracy, even outdoors in sun (I could consistently hit opponents at more than 40 yards). Multiple settings are great for handicapping and for variations on play. My kids learned to use them quickly without any prior experience.

HEADS UP: The plug 'n' play videogame only works with CRT (tube) TVs, which would be a drag if you didn't have one, because the game is kind of fun. One drawback is you can't buy the guns one at a time. You always have to buy a pair and each pair comes with a plug 'n' play game.

I would have given these a 5 star rating overall if they had a hit sensor or sensors off the gun. As long as the gun is protected from laser hits, you can't be killed. You can stick your head up from cover without getting killed -- it detracts from the tactical aspects of the game. A hat sensor would make this game better if you could add one without detracting from ease of use or ruggedness.

UPDATE: Four months later and the four guns (two sets purchased) are now down to three fully operational guns (one now fires only in shotgun mode -- better than not at all, I guess).
