This was purchased for a gift for our 6.5 year old after her CD player died and we all decided to move into this century as far as mucic goes, (we switched to MP3's/IPOD's.) This is a speaker for the IPod or MP3 player, you can even hook it up a personal CD player. The sound is fine for a kid or a small space. The e-motions that the dog displays are very cute and it is very easy to use. I gave it 3 stars for durability because it really is not a "toy" it shouldn't be droped or tossed around it should be treated as a part of the whole music system. I wouldn't recomend this for a child younger than our daughter unless it will be closely monitored, most optimally for 7-8 and up. Also if a MP3 system is purchased make sure child can read and choose the songs played. I would also recommend getting the bag that holds the dog and the equipment is it cute and very sturdy and keeps the "toy", player and all the necessary wires safe. Love it!
