I received this from my step-daughter because she knows how much I love Star Wars. The only thing preventing me from returning it is that she's 7 and will be very hurt if she no longer sees it displayed in the house.
Yes, it took at least an hour for me to transform it. The instructions were so bad that I found it easier to not use them. It seemed more like a puzzle than a toy that way, and that made the process slightly more bearable. Granted, there were still the problems with the pieces not fitting together too well- and random parts of the shell popping off when you try to fit them into place- but it was 'slightly' more bearable.
I refuse to transform it back. I have much better things to do with my time.
I would not buy this for anyone, ever.

This toy looks very cool in the box! You just can't go wrong with a Star Wars toy in our opinion...but this one is next to impossible to transform. Box says for ages 5+ and my son got it for his 6th bday today. The transforming instructions are not much help. My 15 year old, who can do a rubics cube in no time flat, finally gave up after 30 minutes tryiing to transform it from Darth Vader to the Death Star. My husband was able to figure it out, but it took some time. I would not recommend this for anyone under 10. Darth Vader is very cool and it has some very cool sounds and lights. If you don't mind leaving it as Darth Vader, it is a great toy for all ages, but if you want to transform it...pack your patients!Customer Review: Collector's Item

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would buy this particular Transformers toy for a child. It's definitely not a toy they'd be interested in, even if they think they might be. They'd be better off with one of the smaller ship models they've put out.
I bought this one for my 22 year old husband for Christmas last year. He collects all things Star Wars. It took him about 45 minutes to transform it the first time, and since then it only takes him 10 minutes or so. It mostly sits on a shelf at our house, and really, we got what we paid for. I really don't think children would care much for this toy.

This is a very cool-looking toy, but is seems impossible to "close." On Christmas, we watched aunts and uncles try to make it transform back and forth. The next morning, my grandson discovered that a tiny wire from the packing was still stuck in the toy - with glee, he announced that he was sure he could make it work. Unfortunately, the removal of the wire didn't seem to do the trick. He made a wry comment about the person who made the toy, saying that the toymaker made a thing that really just didn't work so well. I had to laugh. My 7 year old son received this for Christmas. He eagerly awaited for me to "Transform" it into the death star.....waiting.......waiting.......(Yawn)WAITING!!! It took me an HOUR and I finally gave up! My son proceeded to try and in 10 minutes figured it out!! (Ok, it was a little warped on one side and not perfectly spherical but he got it!) It makes me appreciate all the Christmas Eves that my parents tackled all those toys for me!!!! Anyway, the sound effects are really cool and my son likes using the spring action gun to knock over his other transformers!
