Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Playskool Dream Town Rose Petal CottageCustomer Review: Adorable! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my daughter who is 14 months old. And the reason I did is because she has shown an interest in being in her own little space. (she liked to go up under her jumper where it was semi-closed in.) After my husband and I put it together (45 minutes tops.. including stove & dining set) my daughter was so excited about playing in it! She loved that we could look thru the windows in at her and open the door! You could even look thru the chimney (has a mesh lining to keep stuff from falling in).
I think overall that the quality is very good and durable. Although you cannot use it for rough play. It has a metal frame with plastic connecters (no tools needed for assembly). From the picture I thought the house was plastic, but its actually fabric that completely surrounds the frame. The frame fits inside the fabric and is zipped in.
The house is light-weight and can be knocked over or easily moved aside. The 2-part door closes shut with magnets that hold it closed. Inside the fabric of the door is cardboard to make it stiff. My daughter didn't realize how flimsy it was and fell right thru it.
The stove is adorable and simple.
The set I bought (off of an auction website) came with the table and chairs dining set. I couldn't tell from the picture, but they are inflatable. I thought they were stuffed. The table cloth is not attached.
Educational value: For playing house. Pretending to cook and clean. Lots of imagination value!
The extra accessories are expensive. But the quality is good.
Customer Review: Perfect play house for girls Summary: 5 Stars
Got this for my daughters (ages 1 and 4) for Christmas and they LOVE it! My 6 year old son loves playing in it with his sisters as well (although he almost tried to climb on the outside of the house but I stopped him in time - boys will be boys). They wanted to sleep in it the first night too! My 22 month old can stand up and walk around in the house comfortably, her head is no where touching the ceiling. I've gotten in the house at the same time with the 3 kiddies comfortably as well.
The house is made of fabric and not vinyl so it doesn't get hot inside the house like other playhouses. There are windows on 3 sides of the house which they peek out of often while playing inside. It comes with an oven that takes 5 minutes to assemble and personally I think is enough, as too many kitchen items will only cramp the inside. We keep the house closed and use it as a playhouse and it resides in my daughters' room. It does take up quite a bit of space, but the halves do nest together so that saves some space.
My husband and I followed the online video instructions and it took us about an hour as the kids were "helping" us. I highly recommend following the video instructions, they were very clear and easy to follow:

I only wish they had something like this when I was a kid! I see many more years of playtime with this cottage.
Customer Review: Time-consuming assembly Summary: 3 Stars
I am glad I got this when it was discounted to about $40. Though it looks really pretty and is a cute idea for little girls, I was extremely annoyed at the time it took me to put this together. I spent about 1.5 hrs assembling this - some of the metal rods were bent on the inside, so that I had difficulty inserting the plastic fasteners and you need some strength for putting the thing together - I actually used a hammer to get the rods into the plastic. The instructions are not very user-friendly and written poorly.
The cottage itself, both components of it is cute, but there really isn't that much space for more than one child to play in it at one time. My 4 year-old daughter is petite, but when she gets a friend to come over and play, the space is pretty cramped. The stove that came with this set seems cheap-looking and there aren't any special features to it [i.e. no sounds].
The zipper that holds the back flaps together can easily rip with some force, and so I'm not really sure how much wear this item can take. It is light enough that one can move it around the house with ease, but dismantling it for storage? I don't think so - once those components have been put together, not all of them can come apart easily.
All in all, I think it was worth the $40 I spent on it as it does encourage creative play, but I will not be getting the other accessories that come with this set.
Customer Review: Our girl's own little house - probably her #1 favorite toy ever Summary: 5 Stars
What's amazing about the Rose Petal Cottage is that, 2 years later, our little girl has not tired of it yet. Unlike a doll house this is HER little house inside our house.
The other amazing thing is that the house actually lasted for 2 years and it looks as good and as undamaged today as it did the day we assembled it. I can't think of any other toy of hers that survived for 2 years. When linked together, the 2 halves form her little corner of privacy and it can be in the middle of the living room. She and a friend can bring in two little princess chairs, close the the door and they can play inside for hours, watching TV through the window or making breakfast for their dollies or for themselves. The possibilities are endless and you don't really need the related accessories. The little stove that came with the house saw some play but it's mostly other toys of hers that she brings into the cottage.
One word about the initial assembly. It's not easy. Or at least it was 'mission impossible' for me. I needed help after I set up the frame. It was 'mission challenging' for my wife who correctly put the rest together. With my help, following her directions, of course.
I give the Rose Petal Cottage an enthusiastic 5 stars. My little girl is a happier girl because of it.
Customer Review: Full of imagination and fun Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this specifically for my 2 YO daughter, but my 6 YO son plays with it as much if not more than she does. I've been looking for a large "doll house" that they could play with, but could never see paying over $100 for them. I saw this, and not only is it big enough for them to sit in, it's light weight so they can move it pretty easily. It is rather "girly" (lots of pastels and flowers) but if they toned down the pastels and made it a little mroe unisex, I think more boys would really like to play with it too.
The assembly is pretty easy as long as you can follow the instructions. There were a few times my husband and I were a bit flumoxed, but when we looked at the directions, it was pretty well explained. The engineering of the house is really ingenious. None of the support bars show on the outside. Both sides are zippered envelopes with liberal use of velcro to keep everything where it belongs.
The bars are also not the flimsy "pop-up" steel suspension everyone seems to be using these days, but actuall square aluminum tubing. I doubt it would hold up well to a 6 YO sitting on top of it, but other than that, it's a pretty strong frame.
All in all, I think this was one of the best purchases I've made for them. Heck, I want to play with it!
