Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Playskool Busy Ball Popper

Customer Review: Ball Popper Fun
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this toy for my one-year old for his birthday, and he loves it. He quickly learned how to push down the red plunger to make the balls pop, and laughs hysterically when they do. He also thinks that the music is great dance music!

Caveats: This toy is not very stable; if a child tries to balance on it, or pull themselves up on it, it will immediately fall over. Luckily, it's light, but it startles the child... Also, the toy is designed to run unimpeded; the slightest interference (or sometimes none at all), and the balls don't fall neatly back into the tray to go down the runway to pop up again, they fly all over the room. Again, more hilarity for the child, and this can be viewed as a positive if you would like to get your exercise from retrieving balls... And my kid keeps trying to put the balls back down the center hole, instead of the side one where they're designed to go. Of course, he also tries to put blocks, smaller balls, and whatever else he can find down there, too...luckily, a quick upside-down shake expells all foreign objects.

All in all, I would recommend this product. My child thinks it's hilarious, and I don't usually mind retrieving the balls. Usually.

Customer Review: Definitely an active toy!

We just got this for our 10 month old and 2 year old and they played with it non-stop for an hour! It does pop the balls a lot and the music and sound effects are cute, but beware the balls don't stay in the ramp. This could be aggrivating to an adult or an immobile child, but my two year old thought that was the BEST part! She squealed with delight when she'd have to go 'find' the lost balls, and even got mad at me for helping her! This will come in very handy for us when it gets 115+ this summer and is too hot take the kids out. If your baby is too small to get the balls by his/herself then beware that your child would require you to help during play. FYI.

I would say that if you take away one ball, leaving four in the toy, that it is much more 'subdued' and the balls don't go flying everywhere - instead they just kind of roll around and spill over the top opening. I think that would be more appropriate if a small baby were playing wtih it alone or for a special-needs child who couldn't move too fast to catch all the balls.

Don't forget to order four 'D' batteries if ordering online! I do think golf balls would work in case the original balls get lost. Enjoy!

Customer Review: Appears fun to kids at first but is also dangerous
Summary: 2 Stars

Our one-year-old nephew received the ball popper as a birthday gift this past weekend, and all of the 3 and 4-year-old kids at the party were quickly excited and interested in helping keep the balls moving and flowing. It's looks like a great toy to play with, but it was surprising how many times the balls kept shooting out all over the place. It seems sort of "out-of-control" for a 9-month-old (min. age indicated on the box) to play with. At first we considered getting this toy for a friend's child, since it seemed to be such a hit with all of the kids. However, the most horrifying aspect of this toy is that a child's arm can get caught inside the hard, plastic hose where the balls are supposed to be dropped. The suction from the motor keeps the child's arm trapped inside the hose until the toy is shut off. We witnessed this happen to two of the kids who were playing with the toy. Also, sometimes when the toy was turned on, the air motion reversed for no reason so that the balls didn't pop out like they were supposed to. This didn't really seem to present a problem with the toy; it was just puzzling. I won't be buying the toy for our friend's child because of the suction issue.

Customer Review: He plays with it every day and it has been 6 months!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son, currently 20 months has been playing with this toy nearly every day since I purchased it about 6 months ago. It hasn't broken, and he loses the balls under the couch multiple times a day. It doesn't bother him any more- it used to, hes started grabbing the nearest adults hand and pulling them over the couch and saying "move!" We know that means he wants us to move the couch so he can retrieve one of his balls. He doesn't always go looking for his balls though. He very often will just find something else to throw in the ball popper to see if it will blow. Paper is one of his favorites. He has thrown a great many things that I did not even realise he has access to, like bottle caps. Uhh, that's dangerous for a little guy. He puts everything in the thing and the motor still works. It does make a horrible sound if he gets a crayon or something like that in there. He loves it, experiments with many different items so its somewhat educational... The cat also loves this toy too and often will play with him and run off with his precious balls! He then chases her. All in all this is one of the best toy purchases I have made for him. Teenage visitors are also known to join in. Cute.

Customer Review: Crazy Crazy Crazy
Summary: 5 Stars

When my son was 1, he had a love-hate relationship with this toy. When turned on, the blower is a bit loud, similar to a hairdryer i guess. And that scared the crap out of him. But at the same time, he was addicted to trying to catch the balls as they popped up and out. He got really excited and had a great time, but I'd have to sit right next to him to play with it. Also, as the balls fly up in the air, they very rarely fall straight back down into it, so I was constantly running around trying to pick them up so he could keep playing. Those things go everywhere and it only comes with 5 so you have to pick them up promptly or the game is over.

As he gotten older (he's almost 2), he's use to the noise and chases the balls around himself, and he likes putting them in the hole, along with any other small toy he can fit. (he also pretends to blow dry his hair with it!)
Anyways, he absolutely loves it and plays with it all the time. I finally found out extra balls are available through Playskool's website, so now he has an endless supply.

This really is a cute and FUN toy, just keep in mind that very young kids will need help playing with it.
