Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Playskool Busy Ball Popper

Customer Review: Baby and older sibling can enjoy this together
Summary: 5 Stars

I haven't found too many toys that my 1-year-old and 3-year-old can play with together -- mostly my preschooler tries to play with his toys, and the baby gets in his way -- but this toy is something they can both enjoy.

My 1-year-old understands the point of this toy, and she's able to push down the plunger to get the toy started. When the balls pop out onto the floor, she knows how to pick them up and put them back in. But sometimes they get popping so fast and furious, she can't get to them quickly enough. That's when her older brother can run around and pick them all up.

I can understand why some parents who had just a young baby didn't like the toy. There certainly would be times when a baby or toddler would not be able to collect all the balls and place them back onto the funnel. But that's what makes this toy perfect for our house -- it's challenging enough for my preschooler, but simple enough for the baby, too.

Some parents complained about the noise level of this toy, but I found it no more bothersome than any other electronic toy. It does have a fan that sounds roughly like a Dustbuster mini-vacuum, but to me, that's just white noise.

In the end, what matters most to me is that when this toy revs up, both my children smile and head that way.

Customer Review: He loves it, I hate it
Summary: 5 Stars

Hard to know how to review this, but needed to say something...this is my son's favorite toy. In fact, he will play with very little else. He turns this on every morning by 6 am. He will make his way through a completely dark house to the front room to find this. The music is way too loud and it's insane. And I have to listen to it all day long. If he's awake, this thing is on. Yes, the balls shoot all over. Yes, this would be the toy the devil would make if he could make toys. But my son LOVES it. Plus, he has learned how to fix it on his own when the balls get stuck in the tube, and it taught him how to put balls in a small hole, and he'll hunt all over the house for the "right" balls to fit in this, as he has learned that using the "wrong" balls messes it up. So it has taught him a bunch. But I still hate it. We buy him other ball-type toys in hopes that he will forget this, but he ignores them all. We once switched it off and told him it was broken or dead or something, but he pounded on it and screamed to the point where we worried he would hurt himself, so we swtiched it back on. If we put it away he hunts for it non-stop. FYI, my son is 13 months and has had this since he was about 7 months, and his fixation on it only gets stronger. He sort of likes the Dino Ball Drop, but it's no ball popper.

Customer Review: Loads of Fun...But There is one design Problem
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my son's first birthday. He loves nesting toys, and balls, so I figured that this was a wonderful combo. He LOVES this toy and will play with it for long periods of time, but he does get frustrated with it at times.

His frustration steams from the fact that if more than one ball is in the shoot at a time, no balls pop out, they just kinda float in the tube in limbo. He has also gotten his hand stuck trying to retrieve a ball that was in limbo. His sister (5yrs old) has also gotten her hand wedged in the toy (althoug she is better at getting her hand out) but she also enjoys playing with this toy with her brother.

The second thing is that although the balls are not small enough to be choaking hazards, they just barely meet this criteria. They are just big enough not to be choaking hazards, but my baby still tries endlessly to get the whole ball in his mouth and my not quite 3 year old nephew likes to play this game as well, and he CAN fit the whole ball in his mouth.

This little problem is why I chose to give this toy just 3 stars. I love that my baby is learning cause and effect, and that he is very entertained by this toy. But I think it could have been designed a little better, with a stronger fan and a bit larger balls.

Customer Review: Loads of fun for the kids, Loads of work for the parents
Summary: 3 Stars

My mom bought this toy for my 16 mo old son when he was just under 1 year old. He loved it, and it was especially fun watching him learn how to turn it on himself by pressing the red button. The advantages of this toy are that it taught my son cause-effect. He loves the music and he laughs when watching the balls fly out. He also enjoys putting them back in again. The disadvantages are that the balls fly everywhere. So, if I am not there to chase after all of them, then it's a pretty useless toy. At first, I thought it was a malfunction that the balls flew out of control rather than popping up just enough to fall back into the catch basin at the top of the toy. But, then I read in the instructions that this was supposed to be a "fun" part of the toy. I am constantly fishing these balls out from corners of the room and from under the furniture. But, if the balls are all in place, my son thoroughly enjoys this toy!

One other thing to mention to anyone thinking of buying this toy--Playskool does not sell the balls independently of the toy. So, if you lose them or if you dog chews them up (like mine did), you cannot replace them. I found this to be annoying, especially since the toy purposefully shoots the balls out so that you have to chase them down and they can very easily get lost.

Customer Review: Toy for all ages!

Hasbro Playskool Busy Ball Popper

This toy is a favorite with our grandchildren. We first bought it for my granddaughter on her first Christmas at one years old. Then we were blessed to receive two more grandchildren from states away for good! Now, I can't put it away from our 3 1/2 year old grandson. My husband and I so much enjoy watching the children play and we've had it for almost a year now. In my opinion, it is one of the best toys out there.

Yes, the plastic balls; you have to fetch them. But what toys do you not have to fetch at some point anyway? Our set has stayed in tact and has worked on key with every push of the coveted button. And we sing along to the music since we grandparents aren't too old that we can't remember at least some of the words. That is an extra treat for them.

The only draw-back is that the toy doesn't come with an extra set of plastic balls for replacement. Since our grandchildren love this toy so much, those plastic balls are like gold around here.

One more thing...I just bought another one on Amazon tonight for a Christmas present for our grandson. I bet someone is rolling their eyes!
