Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Nerf N-Strike Disk ShotCustomer Review: Fun activity Summary: 5 Stars
This has proven to be an enjoyable toy for my 9 year old, who received it as a Christmas gift in 2009. The discs are beginning to stick together upon launch, 2-4 at a time, but it has been a well-used toy. The launcher is loud, but not objectionably so; we use it as much inside (long hallway) as outside. I think this is one of the best toys for a kid who loves gun play because it does not involve shooting representations (either drawings or objects) of people or animals and kids can compete against themselves or as teams as well as against individual playmates. And, with the ability to vary disc heights and angles, kids can increase their skill levels.
* Buy more foam discs and 'bullets' than come in the package to provide longer play time before spent discs/bullets need to be retrieved.
Customer Review: Fun, but noisy and energetic Summary: 4 Stars
Saw this on the way home from vacation and couldn't resist picking it up. It works surprisingly well (just be careful to insert the disks completely and evenly), and the disks do reach the stated ~7 or ~9 feet of height, which is a bit of a problem, since it's even more challenging to hit the disks when they bounce off the ceiling since they're already fast and hard to hit to begin with. It would be much better if there were 3 settings, say 3, 6 and 9 feet, where the 3 feet setting launched the disks markedly more slowly so that they were easier to hit.
The motor is quite loud, and it and the beeping precludes use by adults who would like to practice while the kids are in bed, or by the kids at other times when significant noise is inappropriate which is unfortunate.
Customer Review: Noisy, challenging toy Summary: 2 Stars
We bought this toy for our 10 year old son for Christmas, and I am thinking of returning it. It really is too noisy. If you have a basement or a spare room that you can shut the game up in then you might be able to tolerate it. The toy is also pretty challenging, and it took quite awhile to learn how to hit the targets, so your player has to be pretty persistent.
I am just not sure how much lasting "play value" this toy is going to have in the long run. My fear is that after a few more play sessions it is going to end up in the pile of "badly conceived but heavily marketed" toys in my son's closet.
I guess I should have bought lego...
Customer Review: Way too loud Summary: 3 Stars
I saw good reviews for this product and some people did mention the noise, but still rated the product favorably. I expected maybe it would sound like a loud fan on high speed, but never expected anything as loud as this. It sounds like an air raid siren and can be heard outdoors while using it inside the house. It's definitely fun to shoot at the skeets, but the noise is hard to tolerate and this thing gets jammed pretty regularly. Four stars for fun, two stars for reliability, and three stars overall for the unbearably loud noise.
Customer Review: fun Summary: 4 Stars
This game is fun but a little pricey. I know it is a Nerf product which automatically raises the price. I think the Nerf company should care about the economy and lighten up on their prices. If other companies not as large as them can keep their prices lower so can they. I don't know much about the retail business but as a customer it always makes me feel like these companies think their stuff is so popular that price doesn't matter therefore making the customer not matter. Just my opinion.
