Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Littlest Pet Shop Paws Off! Electronic DiaryCustomer Review: Paws Off this Toy--It's not worth the frustration Summary: 1 Stars
This Paws Off Diary is an all around disappointment. The voice activated lock never worked, despite 3 different adult family members resetting the password! I read and reread the directions and never once got the diary to work!
My second complaint is that the diary is not truly a diary--there is a paper pad enclosed and it is not tightly bound so when my daughter would turn to the next page to continue her thoughts, the first page would fall out. It's just a mess! Not a good way to teach organization and neatness!
The only positive thing I can say about this toy is that the spotted dog is adorable but not cute enough to keep for what we paid!
Please save yourself the heartbreak and frustration. There are other voice activated diaries out there or resort to the old lock & key kind--we found a fuzzy LITTLEST PET SHOP diary at Target and it made a great replacement!!
Customer Review: CIA-like Diary Summary: 4 Stars
This electronic diary was a great gift for my 6 year old! The diary is voice activated and once you've recorded her voice it only opens for her voice. Several things to keep in mind: When you record her voice on the diary make sure there is absolutely no background noise or the voice will not be recorded accurately. Also when your child records her voice she must use the same inflection and pitch when she tries to open the diary as she did when she recorded it. Her older sister was able to open the diary if she used the same inflection and since their voice is similar, it opened for her too. However, it did not open for anyone else's voice. The little sheet of paper that the diary holds to write in is small but we bought an extra pad of paper(the size of small post-it-notes) to fit inside. Overall it was a cool gift and my child uses it all the time.
Customer Review: "Paws Off!" if frustrating at first Summary: 4 Stars
We just bought 2 of these for my daughters, ages 4 and a half and 8 and a half. First off, I wish there was more than just the dog version to choose from, but we solved the "whose is whose" problem with a Sharpie on the back. The voice recognition is pretty frustrating for kids, it took a good 20 minutes for my eight year old and I to get it to accept her voice. Make sure you pick a short, one syllable password, and like the other reviewer says, one with hard consonants in it. So far, I have been unable to get my 4 year old to say the password the same way several times in order to get the diary to accept her choice of password. She doesn't seem to mind too much though and both of them are in there happily writing in the diary and using the stickers. I hope Hasbro comes out with refill notepads and stickers soon!
Customer Review: My daughter's very disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this toy for my 6-year-old for Christmas...it was #1 on her wish list...but now, well, we're all very upset. The whole point of this toy is that you can use a voice-command password so no one else can get into it. Well, first off, the password will not set. It set about 4 times and that was it. The reason we kept having to reset it is because it would not only open to her voice, but other peoples as well. Not very "secret". Also, you can just pull it open from the bottom, which her 2-year-old sister figured out in under 2 minutes. Again, I want to stress that it will no longer set a password. I've worked with it for 20 minutes this morning with no luck. I've spoken to several other parents who purchased this as a gift, and they have encountered the same problem. The technology is just not good enough.
Customer Review: there are more pros than cons Summary: 4 Stars
I got this toy 2 years ago for my 10th birthday. I was so excited to finally get it so I wanted to set it up immediately. It took me two hours to get it to accept my password and respond to me when I wanted to open it. Then it wouldn't close. Now don't stop reading it gets alot better. It turns out it's not the product that was bad, in other words there was just something wrong with that particular diary. So we yook it back to the store for another one and the new one worked perfectly. It's stayed working for 2 years, but I don't write in it because it only comes with 20 3x3 pieces of paper. But it's super durable. My cousin got mad that she couldn't get it open and slammed it down on wood floor, and it still works great. (It didn't open when she slammed it down either!)
I definitely recommend this toy.
