Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro I-CYCustomer Review: NOT a speaker Summary: 4 Stars
I love this little guy - but he's just NOT a speaker. The 'speaker' part of him is the size of a quarter - the sound quality and quantity is seriously lacking. What sound he DOES produce is drowned out by the sound of his wings flapping. He reacts like crazy to the music, but YOU can hardly hear it. He is not a speaker. It's just like somebody turned up their headphones and put them down on the desk and called them a speaker.
HOWEVER he is a good TOY. For your desk, more than for your iPod. He has a good microphone on the top of his head to listen to music and if you sit him on your desk and play music through real speakers he is supercute - dancing and warbling along, scolding you when the music stops and playing his own musical riffs when you push his nose. I really like him - as a desktop pet or tamagotchi-like game. But they're wrong to label him a speaker. Someone looking for a speaker would be disappointed by his performance.
Customer Review: Cute but not for extended use Summary: 2 Stars
I got this little penguin for a gift since I am a linux guy. Its cute.
The speaker is about what you would expect. Not great for music. The earphones sound much much better than the speaker in the little guy.
The Dancing is not constant. He will stay still for some time, then wiggle around for a few seconds, then stay still again. The lights on his chest are just random patterns. They don't match the music beat.
The movements create this little mechanical noise that is actually pretty loud, almost as loud as the music. And he 'squaks' abit.
Its a cute thing for my desk, but I don't actually play music through it anymore. If you want it for a cute nic-nac, then I love it. If you need it to actually play music, then not so much.
Customer Review: This little guy is entertaining! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought I-CY because I have to admit I love my son's Spi-dog. The Penguin seems to have more personality than the Spi-dog. He flaps his wings, and he really gets his groove on and rocks back and forth. If you tap on his beak, he will sing and flash his lights in a funky pattern. If you flick his tail feathers, he lets you know he is not happy with you(it's also his pause button) The instructions are easy and can keep you entertained for a while. The only problem I have with I-CY is keeping my sons away from my penguin. I guess I will have to get one for them.
Customer Review: Cute...But Short-Lived Entertainment Summary: 4 Stars
My kids both wanted this toy and fought over who would "own" it, so I wound up buying a second one. Both used their I-CYs for a couple of days after receiving them but quickly grew tired of their I-CYs and decided they were kind of annoying having to "care" for them like the old Tamagotchis. What they really wanted was just a cute little speaker-type toy that allowed them to plug in their iPods, listen to music, and occasionally see I-CY dance to it. Now I've got the pair of I-CYs sitting on a dresser rapidly heading for the "donate-to-Goodwill" pile.
Customer Review: Cute but not Great Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this because i think it's cuter then the iDog. Ive been using it with my ipod shuffle and the volume is so low i just had to unplug it and use my earbuds instead. the noise of his movement accually was louder then the speaker, and i had it turned all the way up. Also I couldnt turn off his movements while I was trying to listen which was annoying. If I could have then maybe i could hear it better. Over all its cute and fun to watch dancing to the tv But if you want this for a speaker please get something else.
