Customer Review: Amazing Animatronic Parrot

Wow, Squawkers rocks the house! Toy historians may recall a Marx animated talking parrot in the sixties containing a mechanism that tape recorded your voice onto a twenty-second loop. You can see the Marx parrot in the great caper movie "Topkapi". Still the Marx parrot was a dumb bunny compared to Squawkers, who really is more of a parrot simulator than a bar trick. Squawkers is quite realistic, funny, and unpredictable. You can record your own sayings, which Squawkers will repeat, with mouth synchronization, in his parrot voice. He dances, to your music or his own. He will repeat things you say to him (rude things too, to be sure -- the instructions of course include a paragraph almost all will ignore advising you to maintain a politically correct parrot in case minors or persons easily offended encounter your bird). Squawkers also responds to a remote control with more commands, including laughing, squawking, and, yes, farting, although he does excuse himself after the last. And the animatronics here are impressive, especially for the money. His eyes and beak open and shut, his head turns, he leans from side to side and flaps his wings, and he sports a full complement of light, infrared, and touch sensors, including a tongue sensor that can detect the plastic cracker you feed him when he gets hungry. In sum, this toy is FAR too good just for kids -- the box says "AGES 5 to 105", and that's more like it. The box also says Squawkers is "the real McCaw" and claims he's "A bird to be heard". He is all that and more. Worth spending fifteen bucks on four rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, I'd say, and I think you'll agree that he's a welcome addition to any office, dorm room, or household. HIGHLY recommended, and the best toy I've seen since Hasbro's own Interactive R2D2 and the SpinMaster Reflex Indoor Helicopter...Customer Review: I'm In Love!

I bought this toy parrot for my nine year old granddaughter after reading all the positive comments found here on Amazon. I had Mac in my guest bedroom for a month before our gift giving evening on December 22nd. When I took him out of his packing carton to see what he was about I was greeted with a cheerful "Hello!" and I was taken aback by this toys realism. After that first Hello Mac started his beginning repetoir and was soon breaking into song without the slightest provocation and at the strangest times (like 3:00 AM!) but he was strangely non-annoying and my husband and I found ourselves smiling and laughing over this little guy. Soon the time was coming near to giftwrap him and I kept finding reasons to put it off a little longer. I decided to buy a replacement for him so I would not feel so lonely when he went off to his new home. I came back to Amazon to find that it was sold out and most of the stores around me had empty shelves where Mac's brothers and sisters once sat awaiting their new homes and owners. I called my son on the 23rd to see how he was doing with his day of putting the toys together than my husband and I had given the kids. I could hear Mac talking away in the background and it was all I could do to not ask my son to put him on the phone, just to make sure he was happy and settling in OK. I guess the sadest thing was finding out that they had changed his name to Marty!!! Then, I realized something.....when I go and buy MY parrot I can name him Mac and hope to have the kind of relationship I had with "Marty" (Marty! Dumb name).
This wonderful toy is a wonderful new member of the family that will amuse and delight EVERYONE in your household no matter what their ages are. You won't be disappointed!
Customer Review: Beyond everything we hoped for!

My daughter (almost 7 years) wanted this toy very much (she found out from tv advertisements,and wrote it in the first place in her wish list to Santa...). Santa gave it to her yesterday, at our family Christmas dinner... If the toy's great ability to entertain would have not been enough, her surprised face and extreme happiness said it all!! As soon as she touched the bird, it was talking, to everyone's amazement. 1 minute later, the bird had all the party's attention. All other toys where forgotten.
We fixed a little pillow bed right next to her bed, since she loves her pet so much, and doesn't like to be away from it. The bird will be next to her where ever she goes around the house.
I have to say that this parrot has become something very close to a real pet for our family.
Note: In the instructions it says that when someone records a command, the bird will respond only to the same person. What a very nice surprise to find out that, after recording with my own voice, the parrot answers to my children and other people asking the same recorded questions,too!
Customer Review: Expensive and sitting on a shelf now

It would be an understatement to say that my 8 yr old child is into animals. She saw this item and decided she HAD to have it. I told her she had to buy it herself. She pulled a fast one and somehow managed to garner the funds to purchase this expensive thing. I decided to use it as a learning life lesson and let her spend her money on it. As the mother in me predicted - this is one of those toys that the novelty wore off REALLY FAST. For 3 days she played with the seventy dollar parrot, enthralled with it in fact. Now it sits on a shelf - to be brought out when friends come over to admire it and thats about it.
Its very colorful. It is rather loud. It does what it says it will do as far as sing/dance/repeating phrases. If you are spending your money, I say skip it. I would guess it will end up on a shelf to be admired by playdates/mates.
Update---its months later..and its STILL sitting on a shelf. Even the friends aren't playing with it now! Webkinz would be a better purchase - they are played with all the time!

As an owner of two macaws that I hand raised I was a little wary of something like this but was really blown away by the remarkable actions of this " toy ". This is as close to a real bird as it gets and could easily be used for both children and adults as a way to educate them about macaws without using a real bird. It could also be used as a training tool for real birds to help them become adjusted to a bird presence without the danger of a real bird that might be a bit cranky.
I always wondered how it might be to combine the personality of my blue and gold macaw with the traits of my greenwing macaw and found that I could do it with this toy bird and found that it created just what I wanted it to do. Now I have what could be termed three pets. I wouldn't give this to a small child under six or seven as it is a little bit delicate [ just like a real bird } but over all it is well worth the price and I am really glad I bought it.
