Toys and Games Reviews of Guess Who? Board GameCustomer Review: Pros & Cons Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
-The game is, for some unknown reason, very entertaining. I would say it is one of the most popular family board games, and for a reason.
-The rules, and goal for the game are very simple, and you usually don't need to review the instructions more then once, even if you haven't played for years.
-The charecters are creative, although I think there should be more girls.
Cons:
-After playing with both the red and blue board-things, you might be able to memorize the posistions of certain charecters.
-After playing with the board-things for a while, the pictures of the charecters start to fall out, and get bent. The white pieces that hold the pictures on tend to break, too.
-The yellow cards with the pictures of the people on them get bent easily, making it simple to identify who your opponent has, unless your opponent keeps the card out of view.
HINTS:
-Turn your board-thing upside down, then flip it over quickly to save you the time you would be wasting individually turning each picture piece up. Turning it upside down may be harder to do if your picture pieces fall out a lot, though.
-Don't play in a place where the sun can reflect off your card, making it easy to see who you have.
Customer Review: Taking Guess Who to the next level Summary: 5 Stars
PLEASE READ THIS!!! IT MAY CHANGE YOUR LIFE. We all know that Guess Who is a great, simple kids game but few realise the staggering genius of this little wonder. Honestly people, try this more complex version of the game just once and you'll be hooked. We discovered the mystical powers that this game possesses while lazing away in a small fishing village in brasil, though we've found a room in London to be just as good a venue. To unlock it's secret, carefully follow these steps.......Instead of choosing one character, choose 3. Only ask questions that start with 'do any of your characters have...' or 'do most of your characters have..'. 'Any can mean one, two or three characters have that physical feature; most can mean two or three. By piecing together the clues, characters can slowly be eliminated. All 3 characters must be guessed correctly at the same time to win the game. The games should last about 10 minutes, so they're perfect for any time or state you may be in! Other little rules can be added, such as each player can refuse to answer one question about his characters per game! Tell as many people that you can about this game, it's a phenomenon waiting to happen. Happy Guess Whoing. Thanks to my creative consultants Pedros and Jazzy
Customer Review: killer game for adults too Summary: 5 Stars
Some friends of mine and I will play this game in an entirely different way than it's meant to be -- and have some of the greatest nights (usually while on vacation).
OUR rules -- you CANNOT ask ANY questions in relation to the characters physical appearance or gender. Yes, the exact opposite of the game's actual rules.
Sample questions:
"Has your person ever had an illicit encounter with a person of his/her own gender?"
"Does your person drive a convertible?"
"Is your person a raging, abusive alcoholic?"
"has your person ever been on safari?"
Yes, the answers are totally subjective -- but if you can play in teams of at least 2 per side and REALLY discuss the possible answers to some of the questions, you'll find the true genius is IN the subjective interpretations of all the team members who must TOGETHER decide an appropriate answer to a usually inappropriate question.....eg: "Well, there's no WAY Susan would be invovled in a three way..."
You would be AMAZED at how often, after MARATHON games, with ABSURD questions..(that are usually very revealing)....if one team doesn't get it right -- the other is usually 1 turn away. Its incredible. My friends will probably chide me for sharing it.
Customer Review: poorly made, disappointed and gets boring too quickly-reconsider purchasing Summary: 2 Stars
This is poorly designed. It is very diffiult to get the cards in the holders and then cards fall out of the holders repeatedly. There are only 4 or 5 female faces so picking a female is too easy and takes only a few turns to guess. The instructions are vague with 4 holders having plastic that needs to be popped out of center to use properly. The idea of the game is great. The execution is terrible for the above reasons. There are no replacement cards with other subjects so I can expect this game will become relatively useless as the children learn the characteristics of the men; the women, as I said, are easy to identify since there are so few of them. If any thing this game should come with other sets of card with different subjects to widen the use of the game by varying the subjects which you guess, but this is almost impossible to do on your own by printing from the manufacturer website as the pictures must be printed on cardboard to be stiff enough to insert into the card holders..so what is the purchaser to do? I guess you buy this , spending money on a game that should be useful for a long period of time, knowing that it will not be, and it is hard to believe that this game has not been panned for the above reasons long before my purchase.
Customer Review: Set it up before the kids see it! Summary: 4 Stars
This brilliantly simple game is great for teaching children the process of logical elimination, which is a cornerstone of sound thinking. Furthermore, it passes the most basic test of any childrens' game, and that's that they've played it once and they want to play it again. That doesn't happen every time, and can be a sting to the pocketbook when it doesn't!
That said, be sure the game is set up before the kids see it. It takes about an hour to: read the instructions, detach the plastic card holders from the injection molded plastic trees (be careful not to break anything!), slip the face cards into the card holders (don't bend those cards!) and then read the rules of the game. If you open the game new in front of the kids, they'll get all excited and then bug you incessantly until you get the game put together. Not fun.
However, once it's put together it can be a lot of fun. One little non-essential things we've found doesn't work is the little plastic game score keeper for playing a series of games. That is flimsy and keeps falling apart. Still, a fun way to gain a certain kind of thinking skill, and for a good price too!
