Toys and Games Reviews of FurReal Friends Butterscotch Pony

Customer Review: Delighted expression on my daughter's face - priceless!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes, my husband and I thought this a bit of an extravagance but like a lot of little girls, our daughter loves horses. Our daughter turned 6 shortly before receiving Butterscotch & I was afraid that she might be too big for her. Butterscotch was larger than I had anticipated so I think (hope) my daughter will enjoy this toy for a long, long time. I can anticipate one day Butterscotch's mechanical sounds making her seem old-fashioned, (as technology continues its rapid development), but for now, Butterscotch truly is amazing. There are times when she really does seem lifelike! She startled me one day when I was walking past her and she moved her head in my direction. See if your heart doesn't melt just a little when she looks at you with those big, dark eyes and bats those lovely lashes and flicks her tail. As other reviewers warned, the package does arrive without being contained in another box and there is a big picture of Butterscotch on one side and on the top of the box. The UPS person kindly faced the side with the photo towards the house (I wasn't at home when it arrived) so that my daughter - and anyone else walking down the street - could not see what was in the box just by glancing at it. Butterscotch is a big hit at our house and I'm glad we made this purchase.

Customer Review: Butterscotch a Hit!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this pony on Amazon for my 4 yr old daughters "big" Christmas present. After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried she wouldn't play with it after the shock value wore off. So far it hasn't. She's in love. Usually after Christmas, she gets bummed when there's no more to open. I had Butterscotch put together, wrapped, in the other room. After she was done opening her other presents, I "remembered" I had one more little thing for her. She was flabbergasted when Daddy and I carried out the pony. She hasn't left it alone since it was opened, and is sitting on it now watching cartoons and brushing her. It's gotten more play then all her other presents combined. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's little girl (or boy) loves their stuffed animals and ponies, and doesn't mind that it's stationary.

Some people said the neck noise was bothersome, but it doesn't annoy my daughter or me at all. The one thing I do have to be careful about is when she climbs on the back, not to grab it's neck to pull herself up. I'm worried she'll break something in there, lol. Before this I'd say her favorite toy was her Loving Family Doll House, but now Butterscotch (renamed Rainbow), has taken the number one slot. For the price I couldn't be more happy.

Customer Review: There are much less expensive alternatives out there

I actually did not buy Butterscotch for my daughter. She too wanted Butterscotch so much, but my husband and I had a hard time trying find the value of a [...] stuffed animal. we were worried about the durabilty of it and what it really could do. Well, about a week before Christmas we were still debating. We were at our local Walmart and they actually had some and they were marked down to [..]. We were really tempted BUT right there next to Butterscotch was a PLUSH spring horse. It talked and it's mouth moved when doing so. It also made clip-clop noises when you were riding it. It said like 5 phrases and also sang a tune (which reminded me of that song from Halloween II...The Shamrock Mask Co. Song)...But anyway, we had our daughter with us and asked her which horse she liked better. Well, she actually loved them both. The spring horse was the same color as Butterscotch and it was soft and furry as well...BUT it was marked down to only [..]!!! So we decided to get that one. She ABSOLUTELY loves it! AND she can actually ride on it like crazy! We are really glad we were sensible and didn't buy Butterscotch- We found a horse that was a huge savings in the wallet and definately probably more durable...That was just as good in our daughter's eyes too!

Customer Review: Butterscotch wins hands down for presents...
Summary: 5 Stars

This gift has yet to be opened by my five year old daughter, but since it's arrival in the household - - it's been a winner.

Assembly is easier than expected and for the non hammer yielding, screwdriver holding parents - it's easier than putting together a new computer or figuring out the controls on an iPod stereo system.

The other kids in the house have seen it, as well as friends and family. I pre-assembled it, but have it "hidden" away for Christmas. I've shown the toy off to everyone who visits and the ten and fifteen year olds in the house. The ten year old wants one and the fifteen year old thinks it is amazing in how it responds and reacts to sounds, light and petting.

The horse stands a good three feet high and will make an EXCELLENT addition to my daughters collection of toys. This one will have more play time than any of the other toys by any stretch and will easily have batteries being replaced weekly.

If you want to make your daughter happy and bring that most wonderful feeling of satisfaction to yourself for choosing the right gift - this one will do the trick.

Customer Review: A horse worth the money
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this for the upcoming christmas for my daughter who is five, we put it together today and tested it out. All sensors function properly and it definatly sounds like a real horse. You can here some of the motor movement, but the cute factor overpowers it. She even makes carrot crunching noises when you feed her, she responds to your voice as well. The assembly was a little tricky, however the instructions were nice and clear. The one problem I am having is once you zip the zipper and click it into place, getting it undone has become a problem (still currently working on it). So if you are buying, just make sure everything is nice and tight (you'll understand why when you read the instructions) before you zip the head to the body. It requires 6D batteries and I must say the on off switch is epecially nice and easy to get to as is the battery case. Overall I think it is worth the money, I know my daughter is going to love it. This is also predicted to be a hot toy of the season so if you can buy it the sooner the better. Happy Holidays.
