Toys and Games Reviews of Easy Bake OvenCustomer Review: Transfat Mixes Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great little kids oven. I had one as a kid. However, I hate the mixes that are full of transfats that come with the oven. You would think that Hasbro would create mixes that are free of transfats. Isn't this what most food companies have already done or are doing? This item is especially for kids...you would think they would have done this by now. As a mom, I try to buy food without transfat and preservatives. I threw away these (made in China) mixes and bought the cookbook-'Baking with Mommy Cookbook'. I think this toy is much more educational and fun when you make the mixes yourself-great way for kids to learn the basics about cooking with flour, baking soda, etc.
Customer Review: What a disappointment! Summary: 1 Stars
I loved EB ovens as a kid. I still love baking. But this thing is a total bust. We managed to find the light bulbs and baked the tiny mixes as instructed. The cake barely rose at all. It looked more like a pancake than a cake. It was actually concave. I swear these cakes were bigger when I was a kid. Secondly, the cake (in spite of the pan being greased) stuck to the pan. I tried to get it out by cutting around the edges with a knife but it made a big crumbly mess. What bothered me the most was that the metal from the pan (god knows what it is) came off onto the cake from using the knife to pry out the cake. I wouldn't let my kids eat that. So overall, a huge let down.
Customer Review: What happened to letting your child bake with you!!! Summary: 1 Stars
My 3 girls wanted this toy, I will call it a toy and not an oven for a reason. Well a relative finally got it for them and I think we used it twice before it got kicked to the curb. First off, kids cannot use this toy by themselves (they can get burned, the food can catch on fire, and we wont even get into the mess). Point being if you are going to buy the over-priced mixes that taste AWFUL then why not buy a box of brownies for a couple dollars and grab a couple aprons for you and your little ones and get bakin! This way what comes out of your real oven may actually be edible and I guarantee it will be a lot more fun and much more easy then the alternative.
Customer Review: Regret buying it Summary: 2 Stars
My 5 year old daughter just had an absolute fit for an Easy Bake Oven, so we gave in. 95% of the work has to be done by an adult, which to me takes all the fun out of it for her. The mixes for this oven make a very small serving, size of a cookie. We bought extra mixes to have on hand and they are very pricey might I add. But once I opened the first mix and saw the portion of it, I knew right away this toy would be in the closet way more than it would get played with. You could literally let your little one help you make "dozens" of cupcakes and let them decorate them and still come out ahead as far as $$ goes. I was just very disappointed in this!
Customer Review: Pathetic Bake Oven - Don't Waste your time and $ Summary: 1 Stars
Santa brought my 9 yr old an Easy Bake oven for Christmas and I was thrilled as I have such fond memories of using mine as a child- This new oven is a joke - There was not enuf batter to even spread on the bottom of the tin which meant that the final product was the size of a thin sugar cookie - OMG ... pathetic. At least my daughter and I got a good laugh out of it. Finding a 100 watt bulb that is not energy saving was a real challenge - The knobs don't turn even turn on this plastic piece of junk - completely juvenille. You can't see the cake "cooking" in the oven. And to think Hasbro markets tEasy bake oven for 8 yr olds and up. Absurd ;(
