Toys and Games Reviews of Easy Bake OvenCustomer Review: CAn't Beat the Classic!~ Summary: 5 Stars
I gave this to my granddaughter for Christmas in 2009, and she was still using it and having fun baking last Christmas when I gave her some additional items. Due to her age (she is now 9) she still requires some adult supervision when baking, but that is part of the fun -- doing things with mom, dad, or other family members. I think that the Easy Bake Oven is very reasonably priced, although I cannot say the same about some of the additional pieces, including the mixes. It is safe if you follow the directions, and is easily assembled (I assume everyone has a Phillips screw driver somewhere in the house or garage, as well as a 100 watt light bulb). Even if the servings are small, kids are thrilled that they have actually made something themselves.
Customer Review: Gluten-free options are out there Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter received an Easy Bake oven for Christmas, but she could not use the included baking mixes due to her gluten intolerance. This was torture for a kid! However, we found some Betty Crocker gluten-free mixes (brownies, devil's food cake, and yellow cake) and when you only use about 2 Tbsp. of mix at a time, it works great! Also, another company packages Easy Bake-style products specifically for those with gluten allergies (though they can contain dairy and egg): [...]
We also modified the "crazy cake" recipe to use a GF baking mix ([...]), and it was a hit. With a little trial and error (just start with TINY portions so mistakes don't overflow), a kid with food allergies CAN enjoy this oven.
Customer Review: Found a bulb Summary: 4 Stars
Yes, we were dissappointed Christmas morning when the Easy Bake Oven did not have a bulb, and frustrated when it took over a week to find one...but all that really mattered in the end was the fun that was had and the pride my 7 year old daughter felt when she baked her own cookies.
For those on the West Coast, we found a bulb that works at Vons/Safeway Grocery Stores - it's a FEIT 95 watt Standard Bulb - Frosted - 1520 Lumens. The package says it replaces the standard 100 watt bulb. Here's a link to what it looks like: [...] We tried it out, and it worked great, no time adjustment needed - perfect result first try.
Hope you are able to find or order a bulb - it's worth the effort.
Customer Review: Yummy fun Summary: 5 Stars
We bought the easy bake oven for our daughter for Christmas. We've had a great time with it. The mixes weren't very good, but we bought a little cookbook, too, and that's been great. It's kind of hard to keep clean and my daughter had a bit of a time handling the little pusher tool. But, that's why I'm there, right? It's been an excellent teaching tool (cleaning up after yourself, heat safety, fractions, multiplication, nutrition) and my daughter is so proud when she can serve her dad and brother something she made herself. Today, she made a big peanut butter cookie, sliced banana and arranged it like petals on top, and put a few chocolate chips in the middle like a flower. Food network, here we come!
Customer Review: light bulb nightmare Summary: 1 Stars
My daughter was so excited to get this for her 5th birthday and so was I at first; however, it did not come with a light bulb...I spent 3 days going to every store I could think of here in Hawaii to find her a 100 watt bulb and never found one. I went everywhere and even started calling stores. Most said they do not carry them anymore that the bulbs are either 'soft' or the new energy bulbs. Very frustrating...we tried to use a soft bulb which I think will work but the cooking times need to be adjusted and since there is no window to see if item is done it is very frustrating.....
I have gone back to baking brownies & cookies in the big oven with my daughter, much less frustrating!
