Customer Review: Good luck finding the lightbulb!

My daughter just got this for Christmas and I read all the reviews before purchasing so I knew the pros and cons. I truly thought I could find the lightbulb, afterall I don't live in the sticks, but it was impossible. I finally had to go with a 60 watt clear lightbulb and cross my fingers. Well, our brownies took 35 minutes to cook instead of eight. The other reviews are right on with the small portions and need for an adult - even if you're 8. I don't know if I would call this an exciting toy as my daughter has more fun with me in the kitchen, but I thought I'd try a "classic." Some toys are wonderful for many generations, but I think this one had its day and it passed. Bake some real cookies and brownies with your kids in a real oven and enjoy your efforts - the memories will be better anyway.Customer Review: Easy Bake oven hasn't changed much :(

I remember having an easy bake oven as a child, so I told my daughter all about it and what it does. She became so excited and asked Santa for one. Only to be very disappointed when we went to use it on Christmas. First we needed a light bulb, one we didnt have and it has to be a 100 watt, clear light bulb. They are very specific when it comes to the type of light bulb you need. That isnt the only thing wrong. The food you make with it isnt good at all. I know it wasnt going to be the best thing eat, but it was horrible & if you dont eat it right away it gets hard as a rock. My 4 year old daughter spit it out. On tv they advertise it as something so cool and i believe it is just a disappointment. She was soooooo excited about it and that is upsetting to me that she was so disappointed.Customer Review: Don't Pay Too Much and Attention Californians!!!

My daughter has the old model, so ignore my star ratings. Just wanted to let you know that I bought this current oven on Amazon a week ago for $24.99 and it is available from Hasbro for $19.99. It is ridiculous what I see these retailers charging on 12/10/08 (upwards for $55). Also, if you live in California, be aware that the light bulb you will need is no longer sold in our great state due to environmental legislation so you will need to order those online as well and they take longer to find and to get delivered the the toy itself. According to GE, model numbers 41034 and 97489 will both work - both are basic 100 watt bulbs, one is clear and one is the light frosted kind that is ok for the oven. I found some on Amazon and they are available in bulk from several other websites.Customer Review: Fun except for...

...the mixes that were included. The first thing my daughter and I tried were the sugar cookies. The directions called for 3/4 tsp. of water to be added, but we couldn't get the dough to stick together (the instructions were to roll the dough into 6 balls, which are then flattened and 3 are added to each of the included pans). We ended up adding 1/2 tsp. more to get the dough so it wouldn't crumble when rolled.
Then we baked the first batch in the oven for ten minutes as instructed. We ended up with cookies that had run together and burned. The second batch was baked for 8 minutes. They still ran together, but they didn't burn. After some research, I think that I'll use some simple "from scratch" recipes that I printed out instead of buying the Easy Bake mixes.

I don't know why the negative reviews - seriously. Santa brought this to my 6 yo twins and they are in easy bake heaven! I showed them how to use it twice and since then they have made all sorts of yummy treats for themselves and their siblings. I will admit, they are not betty crocker quality, but the kids are still delighted as if they were. It is so fun and easy to use. I mean, how hard can it be?? You mix the mix with a little water and push it into the oven with a pusher, set a timer and voila in 10 min you have a "treat" that you push through to the other side. It has been a great gift and I and my 4 kids could not be happier. After the brand easy bake mixes run out though I will be whipping up our own mixes in ziplocs to have ready for them to use. FUN FUN FUN!!!
