I could remember desperately wanting one of these Easy Bake Ovens as a kid. I never got one. I thought maybe I'd get one for my daughter when she was older, but she got one for her 5th birthday. We tried it out today. It was a hit! This thing really does bake.
Of course, we were lucky we had a light bulb on hand. I didn't expect to need one. I thought they came installed in the oven. It was easy to install.
The oven only came with a cake mix and a cookie mix and one pack of frosting. We chose to do the cookie mix. It took more water than the ¾ teaspoon of water the directions called for. The cookies came out great. Both my son and daughter loved them.
The biggest drawback to this oven is the expensive mixes. I bought one of those Easy Bake Oven cookbooks so my daughter would get to use her little oven more. I'd rather her cook in this oven and make tiny little cookies and cakes than the real oven, since I need to actually operate the real oven and I'm not keen on so much junk food. This way, the junk food portion is tiny and she has the fun of operating the oven.
This is a great toy. I really did miss out as a kid!

I was very excited when I first purchased the Easy Bake Oven for my daughter. When I was younger it was very popular, so I figured it would be fun for her, but I was wrong. It is not easy, and it is a huge ripoff. All of the dials and buttons are fake, and there is nothing to the actual oven. The entire oven is powered by a 100w lightbulb, WHICH ISN'T EVEN INCLUDED. You have to disassemble the oven to install YOUR OWN lightbulb. So within the first 5 minutes of opening the "Easy" Bake Oven, I was already dissapointed. I also purchased a side bag of chocolate chip cookies. FOR $6.00 IT BAKES 2 COOKIES! ONLY 2 COOKIES. I have no clue how this toy became so popular. It is way overpriced (considering it is only a piece of plastic and a plug with absolutely no functionality) and it is such a process for 2 small Cookies. Go to the foodstore, buy a bag of cookies for $3.00 and spend some time with your kid and make some cookies the right way. None of this rediculous nonsense. I am returning it tomorrow. Yes the easy bake oven works well and we found the lightbulb at home depot. But I really wish we had found this second hand or much cheaper. Here's why, as another reviewer stated the timer and start button are fake on the toy. For the price the timer at least should be real. It is obvious the toymaker didn't care much that the children really enjoy the toy. my biggest complaint, it is nearly impossible to see in the tiny viewing holes! Maybe they were shielding the kiddos eyes but i really think they could have made slits or something where you could actually see. That's half the excitement! I sincerely wish I had just bought my daughter oven mits, small baking pans, etc. and we could have done some fun cooking in our toaster oven. I will admit she thinks the EBO is fabulous, but she would think cooking anything, anywhere with me would be great. PS - you can find a ton of recipes online to avoid buying packaged mixes. :-)Customer Review: Easy Bake Oven.

My daughter seen this on TV and had to have it :()
I am 25 and my oldest daughter just turned 6.
We both enjoy this "Oven" I don't see this being a toy tho..
because toy's don't really get hot.
I love that it teaches them how to bake :) I see that important.
Her smile is priceless when her yummy cake or cookie are done.
I always hate how they sell toys that come without batteries :( because batteries are not so cheap if You have to buy them every week.
Easy bake does not come with a light bulb ! BUT what I did is I went to the store and bought one :)
The prices from the cookie mixes ?? I don't really care about that because I go to the store get a big $1 box or make the cookie doe myself.

You have to take the cookie or cake out before you can see it it's done and I don't like that.

I had one of these when I was a kid. The oven has changed & not for the better. The pans are now only a half an inch high! And the slot you slide the pan into leaves just enough room for the pan....so no pies....& nothing that will rise higher than the pan. I got some recipies online to make our own food, but nothing will fit since the opening is so small. The mixes you get are expensive & you get only teeny tiny portions. Why is the pan & opening so small now? Also, I would think they could make a real timer on the front instead of the fake one. The oven I got also had a short in it, but I think I would have returned anyways. I decided to buy my son a chef's hat & apron & small baking pans & use our toaster oven instead. I have been using the easy bake oven recipies I got online ( because it's nice to make small portions of treats). We've made apple pie & sugar cookies so far & they turned out great!
