Customer Review: Easy Entertainment for a Ten Year Old

Santa brought this for my daughter at Christmas. She already has the Easy Bake Oven down at her dad's - and we have the Queasy Bake Oven. Her older brother got it a few years ago - and never touched it. Even though we don't have the actual Easy Bake Oven, it isn't really needed with this cute set of decorating utensils.
In bright, kid-friendly colors, this is basically a fancy way to decorate cakes, cupcakes, etc. My daughter had a great time decorating sugar cookies with it - and yes, even spent some time in front of the mirror, drawing various mustaches on herself. With frosting. Ahhh, to be a kid again!
I was afraid it wouldn't be very sturdy - but I was totally wrong. It's a sturdy little set, easy to clean, and easy for a 10 year old to use without supervision. I love things she can do on her own - that don't require me to "fix it" or "clean it" constantly. She can play with this completely on her own - I'm not needed for any part of it.
A great toy for kids who want to bake. A great diversion for kids who want to bake and won't leave you alone. Give them some a can of frosting and either cookies, cupcakes, or whatever - and they will be entertained for a good while. It gives you a chance to get some cooking done, without help. I would say this is appropriate for 7 and up - younger kids could handle this with parental involvement. Again, you don't need the Easy Bake Oven to use this - although it does complete the set nicely. (And matches the Easy Bake Oven much better than it matches the Queasy Bake Oven!)

All my five year old daughter wanted for Christmas was a cupcake decorator. I looked at several and they were so big and bulky and some required you buy special frosting at a hefty price. I finally decided on this one and we use it at least once a week and the kids (ages 5&2) still love it.
The actual product is innovative. Its essentially a battery-operated piper for little hands that can't twist and squeeze a bag of frosting. It allows for great control and creativity.
Pros:
* easy clean up
* small so it does not take a lot of cupboard space
* good battery life
* easy to use for any age
* well built (it has taken a few hefty drops)
* Takes store or homemade frosting
* frosting cartridges are easy to fill.
Cons:
* cartridges are a little small, seems like you have to refill often (but it comes with three so its not a big deal).
* promotes arguing of who gets to use it :)
Overall its a great little tool for the price for those little ones who love to be in the kitchen.

My daughter loves baking and decorating desserts. We've tried many different methods and she loves using pastry bags with interchangable tips, but it's hard for her to use them. This Easy Bake Pen is perfect for her!
I love the fact that you can use tubs of store bought icing. You simply put in an icing tube and pull up the plunger (similar to filling a syringe). Then you place it in the battery powered dispenser.
One of the 4 tubes we got doesn't work as well as the others. The seal isn't as air tight so it doesn't fill quite as easily.
You can easily change tips and colors. We used one tub of vanilla icing and added food coloring to small portions in little cups. It was quick and easy to decorate cupcakes with many colors and decorations.
Does it produce professional results? No. Do the kids love it? Yes!
The pieces wash easily. I took them apart and put them in the silverware holder of the dishwasher and they came out perfectly clean.

I purchased this for my 7-yr-old daughter, along with the Easy Bake Oven and other EB accessories (all made for 8+ years but there is usually no issues). We were very excitd to use this-we read the instructions and went out and bought some wax paper, frosting and some sprinkles so we could begin making cute little star-shaped cakes. I was very disappointed with this frosting pen. After opening the box and looking at the pen and accessories, we saw what a hassel it would be to use it and put everything right back in the package. We didn't have a lot of time to devote to this, but when we are ready and have an entire afternoon to bake cakes we will finally break out the pen. Also, it would have been a bit nicer if the kit had come in a reusable plastic tote. I am only giving it 2 stars right now because of all the pieces-maybe when we actually use it we'll appreciate the purchase.Customer Review: great fun

My kids 5, 7 and 9 enjoyed using this frosting pen. It was fun and easy to use for little hands that don't have the strength or ability to squeeze a frosting bag with consistency. I bought one container of white ready made frosting and then used food coloring to make different colors. This meant that we needed more than one container to load the frosting so I ended up just mixing the frosting in little bowls and then loading the frosting cartridges with a knife. The problem was if the kids wanted different colors with different tips. You would have to clean out the cartridge and tip or, just do what we did and have multicolors which are fine if the kids are not picky. Also, since there was only one battery operated pen, the kids just used their hands to push the syringes down if they didn't want to wait. Overall, a fun product that can get messy but cleans up easily.
