Toys and Games Reviews of Don't Break the IceCustomer Review: Don't waste your money. Summary: 1 Stars
This is another that the kids all want when they see the commercial. It looks like it would be a blast. Don't bother. It's just not fun. It's hard for kids to get the ice cubes in right & the little hammers are junk. With very little use, a couple of ours actually broke.
I either put this away permanently or I threw it away. I can't remember which.
This is junky garbage.
Don't buy this.
Customer Review: Don't Buy This Game! Summary: 5 Stars
Although my daughter loves this game, I would advise others not to purchase it. The blue frame (which holds the ice blocks in place) is very flimsy. We've played the game probably 20 times, and I've super-glued the small pieces that allow the frame to slide together five times. Today, it broke again and now, it cannot be repaired again. I'd much rather pay a few dollars more for this game and have it last!!
Customer Review: A bit LOUD. Young kids need parent involvement. Summary: 2 Stars
The noise of the hammers hitting the plastic blocks can be ear piercing. We put little felt pads on the hammers. Still works just as well, but avoids the loud CLACK. Young children may not have the dexterity or finger strength to reset the game after each round. I think there are better classic toy choices that teach similar mechanics such as Jenga, Ker Plunk, and Don't Spill the Beans.
Customer Review: Hammering is fun Summary: 5 Stars
I rated this game for my 4.5 years old. He loves this game, he thinks hammering down the ice cube is fun. Unfortunately, the mallet is a flimsy cheap plastic rod, it was easily bend and almost broken to two pieces. My son doesn't care, he said he still have one mallet and can share that with us when we play the game. But if that one is broken, too, then we need to find a substitute.
Customer Review: A Great Strategy-Learning Game Summary: 5 Stars
I played with this game over 25 years ago and I remember how much fun it was to play. My friends and I would play Don't Break the Ice for hours trying new ways to keep the little man (now it's a polar bear) on top of the ice with as many blocks of ice chipped out. It is a great strategy-learning game. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to play this game as well.
