Toys and Games Reviews of Cranium HullabalooCustomer Review: One of the Best Preschooler Games Out There Summary: 5 Stars
I have lost count of how many preschooler games I have bought for my game-loving 3 year old daughter now. The problem is that she loves games, but most games at her skill level are terribly painful for adults or older children to play. For instance, Candy Land and Hi Ho Cherry-o. Both of those games have great educational value and are very cute, but after 5 rounds you will need the men in the white coats to come take you away.
Along with the bumble bee skip hop game and another Cranium game called Cariboo, this is definitely one of the best games so far. It gets the kids' whole body moving and everyone plays at the same time so there is no boring pauses while you wait for someone to take their turn. It is fast moving, education, and fun. How often do you see a combination like that?
I would like to add, I really appreciate the tactile quality of the game pieces. They have a wonderful rubbery feel that makes them fun to handle. I have noticed that all of the Cranium games we have purchased so far have tactile pieces.
Customer Review: Good idea Summary: 4 Stars
First the negative. I agree, you can't hear what the person is saying most of the time. Especially if a kid makes a noise...which kids do. I also agree, that kids should be creative and play these types of games without help from a battery operated prompter. Perhaps it could be a bit more challenging, but I'm not sure what level we were playing. That said, most kids will like this. Let's face it, kids like games that talk. It does make you think fast, which is a very good skill to be learning for the younger kids. It is something we can play as a family, even baby sis gets involved. It also gives everyone a chance to win. My son didn't want to stop playing it tonight. I told him "ok, we'll play until you win again, and then we stop". Sure enough, about four rounds later, he won, and was very happy. He has some delays, and never used to win any games requiring physical skill, or thinking fast. This game allowed him to feel like a winner without me having to "let him win". Recommended for younger kids (pre-k to 7), but also a fun family game.
Customer Review: Excellent Rainy Day Game! Summary: 5 Stars
My kids got this game for Christmas of last year and they still use it an average of once every 2 weeks. Sometimes more. I've only had to change the batteries once. My kids are ages 4, 6, and 8 and they each equally enjoy playing. I always describe it to others as a "Twister sort of game". The kids always end up giggling and it teaches my preschooler shapes and colors. It also gets them moving. I always end up out of breath when I play with them. The game is played by turning it on and starting on a purple Cranium Pad. You are then given a direction like "crawl to a red" or "hop to a square" or "walk on your tiptoes to a food" and so on. When the directions say "FREEZE" you are the winner if you are on the lucky pad. You will then need to take a bow or do a "funky monkey dance". So much fun...I recommend this game 100%. It's very durable. We haven't torn a mat yet, and the part that talks has been dropped countless times. It also has a volume control which comes in handy if there is a large group and it's a little noisy.
Customer Review: Simple yet fun -- We love this game! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this game so much, I bought it twice... once for my son and once for me. My six year old got this for christmas last year and we played it for his birthday party just recently. The object of the game is to place various shaped, colored and marked pads on the floor. Following the instructions from the announcer, the kids jump from pad to pad until the announcer says "freeze." Who ever is on a specific pad, wins. I love the way it lets someone win without being overly competitive. When the winner has to do a "funky dance" everyone has fun, even if they didn't step on the winning pad. The sounds are fun, entertaining and not too annoying. It is easy enough for my three year old to do and fun enough that my 8 year old always joins in. The kids have no problem placing the game pads on the floor and starting the game themselves. My son will play it with all his friend when they come over. It teaches colors, shapes, and various other common objects. This game is a definate must for any family!
Customer Review: my 3 yr old loved this at a playdate, and now i'm buying it! Summary: 5 Stars
Such a fun game! gets them moving, and fantastic for listening skills. Attending to spoken instructions and following through with a pretty quick pace was so much fun and giggles. His 3 year old playmate who was familiar from playing the game with her sister over the past couple of weeks had no problem following along, tho my son would often skip one. Probably would take 4 yr old to do the 3 part moves, though these kids tried with some help from the adults. Perfect no of spots for 3 kids, but would be a fantastic way for more to share and help their friends get on the right spot. Don't pass on this -- our family loves the regular cranium games too, so the 5 stars on durability though of course I don't know -- but the unit seemed pretty simple and sturdy to operate. Did not have any issue with the volume, though of course, as the giggles and shouts get louder, it might be hard to hear! The smiles as they all did a victory dance were not to be missed.
