Toys and Games Reviews of Cranium Hullabaloo

Customer Review: The best game ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have a child, know a child or were a child you have to have this game! I got it for my 3 year old son for Christmas. I didn't know anyone that had it so I took a chance....based on the reviews I read I didn't think it would be a bad idea. We opened it up on Christmas day and played - it is so fun! My son and I played and played. It's great exercise for parents! The rounds are pretty short and have you dancing, hopping, crawling and moving to the next spot. Each spot has a shape, color and object on it (food, animal, musical instrument etc). I love it when the "winner" is asked to take a bow, jump for joy or do a funky dance. The next round starts immediately and there is some snappy music while you're moving from one spot to the next so honestly there never is a dull moment! I was going to take this to my son's daycare when he returns after the holiday break but I think I'm just going to buy them their own.

It's fun, educational and did I mention fun? It focuses on movement, colors, shapes, objects, and really zones in on attention to detail. We had so much fun playing this, I can't wait to get home tonight so we can play again!

PLEASE - IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN- GET THEM THIS GAME!!!!! YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!!!!

By the way - I saw the same game on the shelf at Target for twice the amount I paid on Amazon.com.....order it right now!!!!!!! :)

Customer Review: Fun, but for older kids, doesn't hold attention too long
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this item as my daughter was having a sleepover party with 7 and 8 year olds. I was happy with the quality of the items, the 16 vinyl pads you spread out on the floor seem quite durable. They are much thicker and "sort of" stick to carpets, unlike the mat that comes with the Twister game which gets all wrinkled up in no time. The speaking unit is nice too. Has a volume control, but I wish it had a speed control too. Sometimes it seemed to me that the voice giving out the directions was too slow. I thought if you could speed it up it might be funner at times, but then sometimes the girls were so loud during their moves that they would miss the next set of directions. I must admit the quality of the voice is very clear and not garbled at all. Overall, the 5 girls that played it seemed to like it as there was laughter and screaming. I did worry at times because there would be only 3 red pads to step on, but there were 5 girls playing. Usually they would all race to the pads and run into eachother getting to them. They would play about 5 rounds of the game and then move onto another activity.
But my 3 year old keeps dragging it out and playing it by herself, so it will serve its purpose for a few more years. Still, its price is not justified, it should be no more than twenty dollars in my opinion.

Customer Review: Review for Cranium Hullabaloo game
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a nice change from sitting at the table and playing games together. We all enjoy playing this game- it's silly, fun and a great way to get everyone up and moving.

One suggestion - make sure you have space to play -it's not meant for tight quarters! You need to be able to toss the 16 play pads on the floor, a couple of steps apart, at least.

The talking console will even ask you if you want to play another game (after a couple of games) to press the red button again; otherwise, it will shut itself off. Nice battery saver! The 16 different shaped play pads are made of a very sturdy material and can handle being stepped on, kneeled on, walked over, etc., all of which you'll be asked to do during game play.

I agree with the other reviewer that said it is sometimes hard to hear the instructions when everyone gets to laughing and making noise, but it's nothing that will interfere with the game play.

I definitely recommend it -older kids and adults will enjoy playing as well as the little ones. If you're looking for something different from sitting at the kitchen table and moving pawns around a board, this is a great alternative!

Customer Review: Fun Listening game
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for my 3.5 year old for Christmas and he LOVES IT!! He has a small problem with listening (dont' they all :-) So I thought this would be a good way to get him to pay attention and would give him and I something fun to do together when his baby sister was down for a nap. He likes it so much he never wants to stop playing, usually after ten rounds I'm tired out and tell him it's time to stop and put it away and that never ends well (usually crying). I love that he loves it that much. It is good moderate exercise as you are jumping, skiping, crawling, etc. back and forth to the pieces on the floor. My only complaint is that on carpet they can slide around (I think that is my son's funnest part, making them fling out behind him as he jumps to the next one!). So I think I need to attach the "rug stays" that you get for keeping rugs in place. I think if I cut them out and glue them onto the pieces they will stay in place better and not end up under the couch or on top another piece. Over all WE LOVE IT and would recommend it as an excellant family game (don't just watch the kids play, Play with them!!)

Customer Review: Very disappointing.
Summary: 2 Stars

As a big fan of the regular grown-up version of Cranium, I was very excited to introduce this to my housemate's kids. Unfortunately, it was not to be.

The problem with the audio isn't that the volume is too low, but that the sound is poor quality and difficult to decipher unless the kids are completely quiet, which obviously is not going to happen amid cries of "I was here first!" and "No, no, you're doing the wrong thing!"

The fast pace is supposed to keep children from getting hung up on losing, but this doesn't work for highly competitive kids. A four year old would get so upset over losing a round, that he wouldn't hear the instructions for the next round, scramble around, and lose that one too.

The pads that go on the ground tend to curl up at the edges, which just gets worse when they're stepped on, and they move around a lot.

In all honesty, if you have well-behaved kids who have no trouble cooperating and enjoy listening to directions, Hullabaloo is probably great, but rowdier kids aren't likely to take to it, at least from my own experience.
