Toys and Games Reviews of Cosmic Catch - Colors May Vary

Customer Review: Great fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a really cool toy and uses some pretty cool technology. It comes with 8 colored bracelets that the ball can identify when the wearer catches the ball. There are four games to play including, "figure out the sequence (of catchers)", hot potato, speed pass in which the ball tells you where to throw next, and make your own sequence that grows and you have to repeat. It's a nice active way to keep your brain moving. The wrist bands are somewhat bulky in your hands (you have to wear the plastic medalion in your palm), but I had my 8 year old wearing them and playing w/o any real trouble. The ball is the standard soft nerf material and yes the batteries are buried in it, but with the right jeweler's phillips head screw driver (or even a regular small regular one) you won't have any trouble. I did not have any of the battery contact trouble referred to in other reviews, but we did only play it for about an hour so far.

Customer Review: Fun for all ages!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 5 year old son received this as a gift and brought it to his grandmother's house at Thanksgiving. He had his grandmother and great-grandmother playing it and they had a blast! His cousin who is in college asked for one for Christmas because he enjoyed it so much! He kept trying to beat the high score each time (it keeps track of the highest # of passes) - it was hard to pull him away from it! It is challenging for all ages, not just the little ones. It's great that 6 people can play and it gets crazy. My husband didn't seem to have any trouble with the battery compartment, but I can understand where it may be a little tricky. We have not had any issue with it shutting off or not working properly.

Overall, this is a very fun game and great to keep a group of all ages entertained!

Customer Review: Great idea. Very fun when it works.

My child received this for Christmas. Use a small screwdriver to unscrew battery compartment. Put in batteries and your off. This toy is great group fun. Tossing it around based on the color hand pass you have.
Problem is the toy starts shutting off when it is caught. It appears to be random. You are tossing it back and forth and when a person catches it, it turns off. So then you have to go thru the whole sign on process again. We spend more time setting the game up than playing it. I would stay away from this toy until the quality control improves.

Update: I called Hasbro after Christmas. I told them it was a gift (no receipt) and that I couldnt take it back to a store. Hasbro customer service is very good. They said they would send a replacement. The replacement works great.

Customer Review: cosmic catch
Summary: 4 Stars

The opening was no big deal and it worked great for about 20 minutes. My daughters hockey team was having fun and I could have sold 10 more...then it fell on ground and stopped. I agree it is great comcept and when it works I can see it being used for kids color recognition to high school peer groups...I went back to the store to get a new one and an exchange, but the ten on the shelf the day before were gone. I hope their new owners have better luck. Even the return counter at Target was very nice I could have sold two more to them. I will buy another one when in stock. I did a price review $19.00 to $40.00 depending on store. Shop wisely. I'll let you know how the replacement goes. I think hockey team would be a great test market if Cosmic Catch wanted some test market and quality control.

Customer Review: Not that great

I agree with the man that said it was fun....when it worked. I too had a problem with getting the battery compartment open....and I DID use the correct screwdriver! You have to press down really hard as you are turning the screwdriver to get it open. My 6 year loved it and I think we played with it a total of 6 times and by the second day, it completely stopped working....could not get it to turn on. I went out to Target, bought a second one and it worked fine that night. The NEXT DAY, my son went to play with it with his friend and while it DID turn on, it would not "read" the colored bands on their hands! I am so frustrated because it really is a great concept, I just wished it worked!!
