Toys and Games Reviews of Connect FourCustomer Review: BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE BUYING! Summary: 1 Stars
I had this game back in 1978, when it was a big 16.25 inches wide. The box I got today was about 9 x 9 inches square. Milton Bradley has severely downsized this game and it looks much less structurally sound than the game I remember. The game may still be fun to play, but the picture and size description here on Amazon do not give an accurate representation of the game being delivered. Shame on Milton Bradley for the weak new version and shame on Amazon for failing to update its image. I will return this and find one second-hand. I want the original, big, sturdy version again.
Customer Review: My Son Love This Game Summary: 4 Stars
I am writing this review for my 7-year-old son who loves this game. He says it is very fun, and it is educational. He says it is educational because it requires some strategy, in his words "it's like a tic-tac-toe on a higher level".
The 5 star rating for durability is based upon the fact that my son's class has this game. He said it is played a lot, and it is still in great condition. Based on his excitement for this game, I would say it would be a great game for younger children and the whole family. In fact, I am going to purchase this game for home use.
Customer Review: Quick Fun, Easy Clean-Up & a Little Strategy Summary: 4 Stars
This is the game we pull out when I don't have time to play a longer board game. It seems like my kids want to play a game about the time we only have fifteen to twenty minutes. Something like after homework but close to bed-time. This game fit the bill because it is quick and a lot of fun. You could play it hours and hours if you want, but I like it best for the quick filler activity.
It does teach strategy and forward thinking, it has been fun to watch my children develop these skills. It's not chess, but it also doesn't take as long either.
Customer Review: Vertical Tic-Tac-Toe Summary: 1 Stars
This game is fun for three-year-olds, who just like to practice putting the checkers in the slots. I suppose it teaches a certain manual dexterity. There comes a point in the life of a Tic-Tac-Toe player when he or she figures out that it's impossible to lose. After that, the game is no longer any fun. For me, the same is true of this game. We must have one of the sturdier versions of the game. My daughter played this game as a child, and now her son is playing with the same one. No parts have broken, and the slide stays where it belongs.
Customer Review: Less than durable! Summary: 4 Stars
We recently gave this to my daughter as a birthday present. I was struck by how cheaply made the game is (versus a few years ago). Within one day three of four tabs securing the legs had broken off. Also, the slide mechanism that is supposed to keep the checkers from sliding out of the bottom would routinely "slide open" on its own under the weight of several rows of checkers - instantly ending the game. So, if you don't mind rubber banding the legs on, and don't mind taping the lower sliding door shut - this is the game for you...
