Toys and Games Reviews of Connect Four

Customer Review: Great Game overall, Fitting all pieces in box is a problem.
Summary: 5 Stars

In addition to the regular benefits of playing games: turn taking, communication, fun, Connect 4 in particular supports development of seeing patterns, a very important developmental skill.

With regard to this particular edition of the Connect Four game: It comes with additional pieces you can connect at the bottom to keep the "chips" contained when the bottom is opened and they fall out. (Not shown in the picture on the front of the box.) I don't particularly find this very useful, as I haven't found it a problem that the "chips" are going all over the place. However, it's an interesting addition.

My one complaint is that it's very difficult to get all of the pieces fitting into the box so that the lid closes completely. And this is a big pain. A child can't just pile them all into the box and close the lid. Some finesse is needed to position all the pieces just right to maybe get the lid fairly well closed all the way.

I do like the square box size rather than an old version I have that is a large rectangular box. This size fits better on my shelves. (I have multiple games because I adapt them for further educational support in classrooms.)

Customer Review: Great game, cheap plastic.
Summary: 4 Stars

I grew up loving playing this game with my parents so now that my daughter has turned 7 I thought it was time to get this and teach the kids how to play.

The game is a great classic, easy enough that anyone can learn in minutes but difficult enough for somewhat complex strategies. Also if you don't pay careful attention someone can beat you by accident.

The only problem I have with the game is it's construction. When I was younger the one we had was made of much heavier plastic. The game also had a swing arm at the bottom that swung out to let the checkers out. This game has a plastic oval at the bottom, believe me it's a nice touch because it keeps the checkers in but the problem is that it's cheap thin plastic. The stand is also made of three pieces rather than one so it keeps falling apart, I'd consider gluing it together but then it wouldn't fit into the box.

This game is a great addition to your collection if you have childern, it doesn't have much potential as an adult game but that's not what it's meant for. If you can find one of the older versions at a garage sale or a thrift store though buy that one instead.

Customer Review: C0NN3CT 40UR!
Summary: 5 Stars

10 yrs ago, my sister and I were all over this beauty!
Unless of course ... it was an "UNO NIGHT", oh what great nights we had. Any-hoo, my sister came into town 1 - 2 weeks ago,
(Lana = 25, myself = 20) and the GameS began!!

The Gem to this little duel is "COUNTS."

Counts, being the ability 2 MENTALLY calculate the probability ratio. With the right "eye," Yours truley took his sister out in III CHIPS!!!

As far as color rights are concerned (blk vs. red) ... there is ALWAYS ASH, not can be said about the all mighty FLAME. Think about it.

Well, then it happened. Our parents finally claimed next game.

There is NOTHING more PURE than a VIRGIN GAME of C4
(especially by players in their 50z.)

Game on! Well, after numerous shamefull DROPS, by both parties,

MOM eventually took the GOLD..BRAVA!!!!

A tipped hat goes 2 ALL C4 F4N4T!CS....Gob bless!

Remember ... life is NO Dress Rehearshall, so have FuN.

Ivory:cranE, droppin' da ASH!

Customer Review: Great Time at Lunch!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not going to explain what Connect Four is, as many others have already done this and it is pretty self-explanatory. What I will do is say that this game is great fun to play while at work and on lunch break. Some people complain that it is not as difficult to play as Chess, but it is that ease of use that allows anyone to want to play to pass free time! Games can be as quick as 3 moves (If you know what I mean) or last a few minutes longer if the other player is good and end in a tie (42 places vs. 9 for Tic Tac Toe). Sure, you can play Chess or Monopoly or whatever you play for its difficulty in up to 30 minutes (most people I know do not set aside a "Game Night"), but you can play 30 games in 30 minutes (lunch break) and compete by showing quick reactions and strategy. Hint: Go for Diagonals, as people seem to have difficulty seeing those. There should be no reason for this game to be rated less than average (3 stars) as it is quick fun and does take some effort to constantly play well.

Customer Review: Fun for all
Summary: 5 Stars

This game has really stimulated my children as they work hard to put together creative strategies to beat me or, at least, to prevent me from winning. Like other positional games (checkers, chess, etc), this fairly simple easy-to-learn game teaches children to think carefully through the consequences of what both players are attempting to set up. As the children get more experienced, they are starting to look further ahead than just the next turn or two.

I played this game for hours when I was a kid with my younger sister and brother and, with my father, we had family tournaments that would run over several weeks. For what it is worth, you can jazz this game up (just like chess) by adding a clock/timer so that people's cumulative moves are timed throughout the game. This helps some people from taking minutes to complete their turns if, for example, you set a limit that no player can take more than one cumulative minute than the other or else they lose.
