Toys and Games Reviews of Candyland - The World of Sweets Board Game

Customer Review: Toddler Torture
Summary: 1 Stars

My husband and I have raised five boys. We are a huge game playing family. We have heard all the wonderful reviews of Candyland. However, our experience was quite the opposite. Not one of our children enjoyed playing this game. Getting toward the end of the game and sliding back down to the bottom was overwhelming for our little ones. They became so frustrated that when they played Candyland someone always ended up in tears or they ended up fighting. Perhaps it is better if the children are older, but ours just never enjoyed Candyland.

Customer Review: A classic board game for your little ones!
Summary: 4 Stars

My daughter LOVES this game. Although it says for ages 3-6, kids over six appreciate it too.

Who wouldn't? The pictures of all the scrumptious candy and goodies, not to mention all of the lovely characters like Grandma Nut and Queen Frostine.

This game is good for children because it helps them with their colours, as well as learning to count, and being patient. However, I would NOT recommend it for a three year old because they will probably not sit still and play it properly. My recommendation for age group for this game is 4-7.

Customer Review: Easy to make the game more challenging as kids get older
Summary: 5 Stars

When my kids got this game at 3 and 4 it was a great first board game and they still enjoy playing over a year later (...).

To make it a little more educational and challenging we made new cards recently with the names of the colors written on them. Both kids are just beginning to read so this has been a fun way to practice recognizing color words. We made cards for some of the special squares as well so the feel of the game stays the same. It's keeping the game interesting for all of us who get roped into playing.

Customer Review: Terrific game for beginners
Summary: 4 Stars

When your child wants to learn to play games like a big kid, but hasn't yet developed many game-playing skills, this is the answer. Most children know colors first, and that's all they need to play this game. Draw a card, and move your person to the next square of that color. The first one to the end wins. It isn't loads of fun for older children (or adults), but does give you a way to introduce the younger ones to game-playing concepts like taking turns and being a good sport. Still one of the best simple games around.

Customer Review: Classic Fun
Summary: 4 Stars

Candyland has been around forever and you would be hard pressed to find someone who has not actually played it, I know I did when growing up and remember playing it with my younger sister.

I now play it with my 3 year old daughter who loves it just as much. The revised game is a bit different than what I recall, but it has been awhile since I had a copy before I got this one.

It may not keep attention for all youngsters, but as a general introduction to board games it is still hard to beat.
