Toys and Games Reviews of Candyland - The World of Sweets Board Game

Customer Review: made in China
Summary: 4 Stars

I had looked around at various other sites and it seemed that this was a made in the US product (like the older game is), but it is made in China. Just in case you are interested in info like that. We made every effort to only get non-Chinese products this last Christmas and this one slipped in despite my efforts.

Yes, the 1984 version is better in my opinion, but this game is not for me, it's for my kids. And hopefully they'll have fond memories of the new artwork just like we have fond memories of the artwork from our game.

Otherwise, kids will learn the same things, colors, following directions, following a path that changes direction, matching, etc.
Still a great game!

Customer Review: Each year, my classroom is restocked with this game.
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is instrumental in teaching colors to children. Children can do a basic matching: purple square on a card to purple square on the board. Lollipop picture to the Lollipop Forest. This is a game that is replaced every year so that children can enjoy it. I love the independence it allows children after they have learned the basic rules of it. To sit to the side and watch students play and teach one another is a gift in itself.

After 1 school year of continuous playing, though, the cards are dog-eared and can get lost. (No one goes to the Lollipop Forest!) The board's cardboard doesn't hold up to a year of holding, folding, and game playing, but it's a classic design that works.

Customer Review: easy for very young kids, but super boring for adults
Summary: 3 Stars

the good:
My four year old loves this game so much that he'll play it by himself. It's very easy to understand, and the winner is decided by completely random luck. The board, markers, and cards are durable and cute. The instructions include a variation where players draw 2 cards at a time, and must decide which card to play (teaches kids to consider 2 options and choose the more advantageous one).

the bad:
It's boring for adults, as it requires no skill. My family also likes Guess Who?, which can be played by non-reading younger kids but requires some thinking to win. Memory is another game for non-readers which can be enjoyed by players of all ages.

Customer Review: A two year old can benefit from this game
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my 25 month old niece. She could count to 10 already and knows her colors, I thought she may be able to play Candyland.

I did not bother with teaching her about losing turns at this point, I will teach her that when she can comprehend it. She picks her own cards and knows how to move. At first we did not take turns. I taught her how to play a one player game, then we moved into taking turns. She can now play by herself and loves to get the candy cards as much as any other child. Instead of being stick in the mollasses swamp, she gets tickled...makes the game much more fun at this point.

Customer Review: Disappointment
Summary: 4 Stars

To be honest, I bought this game for myself, so this opinion is only for adults who played the game as a child. I was sorely disappointed by the new look of this game. The Candyland I remember and love highlighted savory artwork of cakes, candies, and goodies. The new version seems to be an attempt at creating more marketable Candyland characters at the expense of the look of the magical land itself. The anniversary edition seems to be much closer to the original look, but my memory isn't perfect, is the board artwork the same? For some reason, I only remember the food. I don't remember any of the characters.
