Toys and Games Reviews of Candyland - The World of Sweets Board GameCustomer Review: When was the last time you played this? Summary: 2 Stars
I have fond memories of playing this game as a child, but I don't know why. Have you played it recently with your own kids? You are NEVER going to get to the end. Even the kids can't hang in there on their never ending journey to Candy Land. They grow tired of it after reaching the candycanes. By the time you get to the last stretch of road and your hopes are high, you will inevitably pull a licorice card and be sent back towards the beginning. It never fails.
The pros of Candy Land are:
A) If your kid is able to hang in there, he/she would be reviewing their colors and counting
B) Reaching Candy Land is JOYOUS because the misery has finally ended
C) It teaches patience. Be patient, be patient, be patient, and you may eventually find your little plastic person standing in Candy Land.
Customer Review: No mess, easy for kids to set up, keeps them entertained Summary: 5 Stars
Ok 1st THERE IS NO MESS in this game. The mats are rubber, not paint, so they dont mess up furniture. We have a dog, and 2 kids, and nice furniture, and there is no mess from the game, and the game doesnt teach kids to JUMP on furniture, everything revolves around the mats. The mats have pictures, the GRAPHICS are great, how are they hideous on DVD?
The game is great for social skills ( Mr Mint says, kind of like Simon says), Gramma nutts musical moves is kind of like musical chairs, but instead of chairs, its mats, and its not elimintaing whoever doesnt get a mat, its "whoever is standing on the mr mint mat gets 1 gingerbread cookies". My kids love candyland board game, but my 2 1/2 year old cant do that game yet, but he can do the DVD game. This game is awesome!
Customer Review: Candy Land is what it is. Great starter game but quickly outgrown. Summary: 3 Stars
The good of the Candyland game is that it's simple and my daughter has played since she was two. The bad part is that it doesn't teach anything other than the very basics of board games. There is absolutely no skill used. Once you shuffle the cards the game is decided. You pick cards one by one and move accordingly. The kids cannot learn any real strategy at all.
If your child is over 3 or 4 and has the basic understanding of what a game is, then I'd say skip Candyland. There is little point to a game that is decided at the first card. But for the very young it's worth having around so they can learn what game boards look like, pieces, cards, and feel the joy of winning...and losing. But I'm very glad to see my daughter grow past this game. Very.
Customer Review: A Game That Transcends Generations Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not sure how long "Candyland" has been on the market, but I played it when I was a kid and I'm pushing 44. My wife and I bought this game for our then-three-year-old son (he's now four), unsure if it would hold his Nintendo-infatuated attention. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on who is playing with him), it does, so much so that his record at one sitting is 17 straight games. Still a classic of its kind, "Candyland" is easy to learn and fun for kids and adults (sheesh, I'm beginning to sound like a commercial here). One minor complaint: the cards aren't very durable and perhaps need to be made of thicker material to facilitate multiple shuffling and to endure the often rough touch of little hands.
Customer Review: Still Classic Summary: 5 Stars
I have fond memories of playing Candyland when I was young. Many hours with my parents and older sister, but it had been a long time since I played it.
I picked this up to play with my daughter and it is just as I remembered it, at least the fun part. Some of the details are a bit hazy so I do not recall the board exactly, and the new board did not really bother me much because I look at it more for the fun.
We are enjoying it together and though it is basic in terms of strategy and the fact it is chance based, it does not detract from the enjoyment and sometimes one or the other wins. It shows the basic concept of taking turns, some skills on colors/matching and overall a good first step game.
