Toys and Games Reviews of BoggleCustomer Review: Best game ever invented Summary: 5 Stars
I feel silly writing a review of a classic like this. But I've found a lot of people who've never even played Boggle! As an adult player, I could write volumes on why it is fun, but more importantly, it has huge educational value. Including.
1. Teaches spelling, of course
2. Teaches vocabulary. During scoring you see the words that other people came up with. I've learned so many words that way, it isn't funny.
3. Teaches quick thinking. This game is all about speed. That's what makes it fun and challenging.
You can handicap the game, for instance, adults have to find words of 5+ letters while kids play 3+ letters, so that people of different ages can play together.
Customer Review: 4x4 grid is too boring Summary: 1 Stars
I was introduced to this game 30 years ago. It's one of my favorites of all time, but not in the traditional 4x4 grid. 4x4 is too darn boring and repetitious. The only game worth playing is Big Boggle with the 5x5 grid. Luckily we have one of these from many years ago, and I live in terror that it might get lost, or the cubes might vanish. If so I'll have to give up Boggle forever I guess, as Big Boggle is no longer available anywhere at a reasonable price, and regular 4x4 Boggle is not worth playing.
But I can't understand why Big Boggle is no longer marketed. It's the best ever. It seems you can buy it in the UK, but they won't ship it to the US. Are Americans considered too stupid?
Customer Review: for crossword enthusiasts, wordsmiths, and English majors Summary: 5 Stars
There is a definite art to Boggle. A good vocabulary and a fast hand are not enough. The joy (and aggravation) of this game stem from the realization that a different perspective can make all the difference. Sometimes you just can't 'see' what is right there in front of you. A good alternative rule is to rotate the board halfway through the time, especially in slow games. In our literary household, Boggle victories are hard won. We have a friend who is so good that we have to practice before she comes to visit in order to avoid humiliation. Sometimes it is hard to believe we are playing the same game because so few of our good words overlap.
Customer Review: My son loves to try to beat me at this ... Summary: 4 Stars
I am a Computer Analyst by day but a secret childrens writer outside of work ... so I love words. My 8 year old son loves science and math but is challenged when it comes to the language arts. This game we changed it up so that he has more of a chance beating me ... he is allowed to do words that are two and three letters long but I can't use anything under four letters long. Once he is hooked on the challenge of beating me ... we'll eliminate the two letter words for him. Hey it's a start!
I even play this game with my retired Mom with the normal rules. Hey it is fun and it helps keep the brain active!
Customer Review: Great game! Summary: 5 Stars
Fast-paced, exciting and brain-enlarging, Boggle is one of the best dollar/fun values going. My only complaint is that once you've mastered the letter set, you keep finding the same sets of words over and over and over again. We need additional letter-cubes! Also, my wife and I play unusual rules -- no time limit. (We both usually agree to stop after 10-15 minutes). Also, you will learn fewer new words with Boggle than with Scrabble, simply because the options are fewer. However, this is a better game to play with younger kids who can get frustrated and bored with Scrabble but will love the faster pace of Boggle.
