Toys and Games Reviews of Boggle

Customer Review: Should be better quality!
Summary: 3 Stars

My husband and I play this game very often. Sometimes, every night. It is exciting, challenging, and even for mature grown-ups like us, we still learn with fun.
But, the drawback is the mediocre quality of the game.
First the size of the slots is so narrow that it takes for ever to place the dices before starting the game.
Second, sometimes the hourglass does not get started, unless we tap it.So we start playing and wait for the time to be up, until we realize that it never got started.
Lastly, after a few years of use, the blue letters start fading away.
We bought one in France, I think it is a different maker (Parker?): the slots are less tight, so the dices are put in place in a bliss; the hourglass works perfectly and so far the blue letters are not faded away, but we play it less often.
It is really too bad that the quality is less than optimal...for a few bucks more, it would make a real difference.

Customer Review: What happened to Big Boggle?
Summary: 3 Stars

"Baby Boggle," as my family calls it, is fun and somewhat challenging. It's difficult to play, though, after having played "Big Boggle," which is like "Baby Boggle," except it is 5 x 5 letters instead of 4 x 4. You get it? It seems like a child's game. It is less exciting, less challenging, less of a mental exercise and probably less educational. One can only guess at why Parker Brothers replaced the adult game with this puny version. Are we Americans just not up to 5 letter + words? At least they could have given us a choice. I've been searching and bidding on Big Boggle games for a year now. They sell on-line for up to $50.00 because of their rarity. Why? Why? Why? Eventually I'll probably have to fork over the big bucks to get the big game. In the meantime, there is always (sigh) "Baby Boggle."...END

Customer Review: Good fast-paced word game
Summary: 5 Stars

In Boggle, players race a 3-minute timer to find word combinations across adjacent letter cubes shaken randomly onto a 4x4 grid.

Because most possible words are three or four letters long, younger players don't need a big vocabulary to find several, while players who scan for longer words get higher scores (e.g., 5 points for a 7-letter word versus 1 point for 3- and 4-letter ones). Playing Boggle is a good introduction to Scrabble and other word games, while clock management skills should help with chess and test-taking.

If you find it too easy to find most/all possible words in a typical Boggle game, you might seek out Big Boggle (not currently sold in the United States -- too much texting, perhaps?) which features a 5-by-5 grid and bigger words.

Customer Review: Fast paced, educational, and fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This game allows you to throw all caution to the wind as you seek out chains of letters that make words of 3 or more letters in length. Shaking the letter cubes makes it virtually certain that no two rounds will ever be the same -- there are simply too many permutations.

Not only does the competition get intense, but there's the chance to learn new words as you strain to come up with likely combinations that actually ARE words. That's how I learned such helpful words as scurf, scree, and jape.

This game is affordable, immediately playable, and lots and lots of fun. It doesn't take all night to play a game, but you can play as long as you want.

Great stuff, faster than Scrabble, and in some ways more of a challenge.

5 stars all the way!

Customer Review: WARNING!! ITEM PICTURED IS NOT ITEM SOLD!!
Summary: 1 Stars

This is not a criticism of the ORIGINAL Boggle, a wonderful game that has now been replaced by a "new, improved" piece of junk. Nor am I criticizing The Education Station; they aren't responsible for the picture of the product which Amazon has put up here, and when they realized that they had inadvertently sent me an item that wasn't the one I thought I was ordering, they very promptly corrected the mix-up. BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE TRADITIONAL, OLDER (AND MUCH BETTER!) VERSION OF BOGGLE THAT IS PICTURED HERE, BE AWARE THAT THIS IS NOT WHAT IS BEING SOLD!! If you like the new version, by all means buy it here; if not, keep looking. For some reason the older and much better version has become hard to find.
