Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Lite Brite White FlatscreenCustomer Review: Fun and Creative Toy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought Lite Brite for a 5-year-old boy and he loves this toy! It's great for his fine motor skills. It comes with only a few design sheets but he mostly likes to poke holes in them than anything. So I cut up construction paper and that works fine. The little drawer is nice to keep all the colored pegs in but sometimes it gets stuck. If you just shake it a bit, then you can open the drawer if it sticks. It runs on 3 D batteries. When you push the light it stays on for 3 minutes. It's a good idea since you don't have to plug it in like the older models and you can play with it anywhere. After he creates his designs, we turn off the lights in the room, turn on the Lite Brite light and marvel at all the pretty colors. He thinks it's "cool!"
Customer Review: Be prepared to curse. A lot. Summary: 2 Stars
We received this as a Christmas gift, and I must say my 6 year odl son, who loves everything that lights up and is learning to read, has spent some valuable time with it.
THAT SAID. The drawer that is meant to hold the pegs is HORRIBLY designed. The pegs themselves keep it from opening smoothly, and when you do finally pop the thing open, there is no way to keep the pegs from flying everywhere. Trust me. After the third try (some ended up in the disposal- ack) we've decided pegs will be stored separately in Ziploc.
It irks me that they didn't test this product well enough to see that it was horribly designed. Or maybe they did, and they just don't care?
Customer Review: Same Fun, Better Build Summary: 4 Stars
This is not your mother's lite brite (me, being the mother). It's the same creative fun but the flat screen allows for kids to use it on their laps, at desks, just about anywhere. The compartment that holds the pegs is a plus but be careful. If you open it too quickly all the pegs will spill all over. It happened twice to my 5 year old on Christmas. This set includes some cool picture templates and some blank pages to create your own portrait. I bought this to help with fine motor skills for a kindergartner learning to write. Excellent and an Occupational Therapist reccommended for kids who are learning to write to increase their finger strength.
Customer Review: Pleasantly Surprised Summary: 4 Stars
We were pleasantly surprised with the flat-screen lite brite. My 4-yr-old is quite enthralled. It's great for fine-motor and it's quite entertaining.
Complaints: The storage drawer works (barely) but it sticks - it's quite hard to open and close. I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks soon. Also, I was dismayed that the templates are single-use only. I don't know if I'd have purchased it, if I'd known. I assumed they would be multi-use. I'd love to find some Sesame Street, Dora or Backyardigan design sheets out there! I've been hunting around the web and haven't seen too many of interest.
Customer Review: Do not pay more than $10 for this toy Summary: 3 Stars
As another reviewer pointed out, you cannot use this toy without one of the 10 design sheets (black background made of thick paper) included in the box. Eight of the design sheets come with a design, the other two are blank "free-form" sheets. The screen is clear so in order to create your own design you HAVE to use a new design sheet and, as I mentioned, you only have two of those. You can purchase refills but that was not what I expected from a Lite Brite. This toy is not worth the retail price, $21.90. My daughter purchased hers at a local Target for $10 and I consider that a fair price.
