Toys and Games Reviews of Hasbro Lite Brite White Flatscreen

Customer Review: As Fun as I remembered as a Kid!
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this for my daughter who is almost 4 for Christmas. I had a number of people tell me she was too young and it was too messy. But she LOVES it! She has played with it at least 3 times every day since she got it. It is a great size for her and I love that it run's on batteries so she can play with it anywhere. The light bulb came with it. The light only stay's on for 3 minutes to save battery life which is great because she can easily push the button when she start's and then again when she is done. The little drawer for holding the peg's is a great idea although I have found that they fall out when she stand's it up or open's it too fast so we just put them in a baggy and then store them in the drawer so she get's the baggy out when she begin's, it work's out great. Everything fit's back into the box. I do wish they made some sort of holder for the pictures so they don't get all bent up. We just put them in a larger baggy. You would think that as long as this toy has been around they would of thought of some way to bold the pictures. My daughter doesn't get all of the letters with the color's yet but she still has so much fun doing it. It isn't the easiet to stand it up and do it because when you push on a beg if you aren't holding it with your other hand it will fall. She just normally does it on the floor or the table.

Customer Review: Not the same but still fun-if you have extra sheets :)
Summary: 3 Stars

My 5yr old son received this last Christmas, he really liked it.

A few issues we have:
The drawer for the pegs. The pegs keep getting in the way of opening it so it's a little hard for small hands to open sometimes.

I don't like that it doesn't have an on/off switch for the light, it just stays on for a few minutes then shuts off automatically.

It definitely needs more blank sheets, I believe it only came with two "design your own" pages and 6-8 that already have designs on them for you to use. Once you use the design the letters indicating which color goes where is gone-you can use your imagination though. You can't use the Lite Brite without one of the black sheets so you need to get refills. We haven't looked to get any so I don't know if they're readily available.

It seems like there are only exactly enough pegs for some of the designs-somehow we actually haven't lost any so when it came down to searching for that one white peg for that last W spot, I realized that there are no extras so make sure you keep all the pegs together!

Otherwise, it's fun enough to keep my 5yr old's attention for a little while. Oh and it only requires 3 "D" batteries

Customer Review: Lite Brite heaven
Summary: 5 Stars

The working surface area on this unit is smaller than the original Lite Brite, but its compact size is probably more convenient for little hands and attention spans.

This newer model also features some improvements over the old classic including a drawer for the pegs, and the colored pegs joined into units of two, three and four pegs making for faster plugging and easier handling (see Customer Images). Can a multi-colored array of pegs offered in the format be far behnd?

This version of the Lite Brite line does not have the same impact as the original (which is not for sale on Amazon), and the battery-powered light, while low in glare, is not nearly as long-lasting or strong.

My thoughts for Hasbro: 1. Make more theme sheets such as the examples pictured in Customer Images (Customer Images under the item picture); 2. Make mutli-colored joined pegs; and 3. Distribute the lighting more evenly behind the working area; both the old and the new models capture all the light in the center of the frame.

But for under ten bucks, it's still one of the most engaging solitary games on the market.

Customer Review: Don't Buy Lite Brite
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought a lite brite for my son's 6th birthday. I loved mine growing up and played with it tons. I kept mine in the original box and had to pull it out and the paper. It had a big screen and lots of room for creativity.

I was excited to see how inexpensive lite brite was when I went to get it and thrilled that it had on board storage for the lite pieces. Once we brought it home, I was disappointed in the screen size. But the worst part about this thing is the onboard storage. The little lite pieces jam it up and prevent it from opening. My 6 year old can't open it consistently. Just today I tried to open it to put a few pieces in and it jammed. I shook it a little and then tried to open it again. The door opened quickly and little lite peices flew everywhere. Not going to happen to me again as I stuck it in the attic for the giveaway pile.

Be forewarned, the lite pieces pop out easily. The screen is tiny which really limits creative expression.

I loved lite brite as a child but not the new update version. Arrgh!!!

Customer Review: NOT Your Classic Lite Brite
Summary: 2 Stars

I LOVED Lite Brite as a kid and played it for hours well into my teen years creating new designs and using the templates. So when I saw this for my kids (ages 4 & 7), I was very excited.

First the screen is about half the size as the original, the pegs are much chunkier and the pictures are simple. It seems to be a 'kiddie' version of the original. My kids took turns playing it and they spent about 10 minutes each before they got bored and never returned. They love crafts, puzzles, spin art & spirographs, so I thought this would be a hit. When they applied pressure to put the pegs in, it fell over. The button was difficult to push and the light was dim and did not stay on during play (only a few short minutes). The drawer was too hard to open and I had to use so much force, I thought I was going to break it - it did not break, but the pegs went flying.

Anyway, If I find an original at a yard sale, I may buy it, but would not spend any amount of money on this cheap rip-off.
