Toys and Games Reviews of Twister

Customer Review: Twister Party!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a college student, and we play this game very often. For one thing it is absolutly hysterical to see two really tall basketball players all tied up, it is fun to play indoors or out, and it challenges your brain. You're probably thinking "What? How does Twister, a physical game, challenge my brain?" Even if you were just thinking "I'm hungry, I think I'll have a Tuna Fish Sandwich," or "Where did I put my Detroit Tigers Baseball cap?" I'll tell you how it challenges your brain. (Did I mention that I am studying to be a teacher?) Okay, Raise your left hand if you know the difference between left and right . . .no your other left hand - good job! One way Twister challenges your brain is that you need to know your left from your right. (Wow amazing!) Now I want you to cross your legs, bend over, put your left hand on the ground through your legs and your right hand on the ground in front of you - now stay that way until I tell yu to move your right arm again - guess what this involves? That's right Balance and coordination! (You get a gold star!) Okay so far we have balance, coordination, and knowing your left from your right. This game also teaches about colors - do you know the difference between red, green, blue, and yellow? Even if you are color blind you can play because they are in rows and if you really want you can label the circles. Did you know that physical activity is good for your brain and it helps you learn better? It really does - there is well proven research on that - go look it up if you don't believe me. Oh yeah - can you show me the difference between your feet and your hands? That is a very important life lesson - if you aren't sure about those I'd like to have a word with your parents please!

One small warning - take off your shoes first - when the mat gets ripped the game isn't fun anymore - you might want to put an oder eater ball in the box if you just played with college boys :o)!

Customer Review: Provided great indoor play for our son's 7th birthday party
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased Twister to entertain about 15 children at our son's seventh birthday party. We set up a game table with four other games - Perfection, Operation, Wild Planet Hyper Dash and iPlay Wok and Roll (I recommend you check out my Amazon reviews on these other games, too).

Behind the game table, we placed Twister on a wide area of carpeted floor. The only rule we established was that the kids had to take their shoes off to play. We did not hover over the group or explain the rules. One boy picked up the spinner board and gave it a twirl. He announced "left hand green" and the game began. Over the next two hours, the kids (3-to-8-years old) played all of the games, coming back to Twister to play in pairs, small groups or groups of only boys or girls.

Of all the games we placed out for the birthday party, Twister and Wild Planet Hyper Dash allowed the children to release their energy the most (that was handy after we served birthday cake). Keep that in mind as you look for indoor games to get you through the winter.

In summary, Twister consists of only a vinyl sheet and a spinner board, so you might think the game is too simple to entertain kids. However, that was not our experience. The children loved to tie themselves up in knots. Rating: Five stars.

Customer Review: a fine, classic game
Summary: 4 Stars

Twister is a fun game especially for kids but of course adults can play, too. It also gives younger kinds the opportunity to identify colors and work on their coordination. Twister is a bit crazy but an awful lot of fun.

Someone (perhaps an adult) spins the wheel and people playing the game take turns placing their right or left hands and their right and left feet on the different colors (green, yellow, blue and red) on the mat. The game usually results in kids laughing and having fun while they play the game; and I doubt that a parent would mind spinning the wheel so the kids can some fun.

Although people can play this game anyway they want, usually the person who keeps their hands and feet everywhere they should be the longest wins the game. Players can be disqualified for not placing their hands and feet on the correct different colored dots on the Twister mat. As other reviewers note, it is a lot of fun for the adults to watch the kids try to keep up with the game!

The game is also easy to store. The Twister game mat, which is made of plastic, folds up neatly into a comparatively small mat that can be stored on a shelf or in the box along with the spinning wheel that comes with this game.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for younger children and the kids in all of us. It's inexpensive and a lot of fun. With proper care the spinning wheel never breaks and the Twister mat is relatively long lasting, too.

Customer Review: Great fun for a large group
Summary: 4 Stars

This game can get any dull party going full swing by getting people who may not even know each other very close. The idea, if you're not familiar with Twister, is that each player begins standing. One person is assigned to be the spinner and spins an arrow on a board upon which are pictures of the left and right hands and left and right feet, and four colored dots for every limb listed above. The board is decorated with similar dots, and the players must follow the given instructions, competing for the most comfortable postitions in which to match the given instruction. Each player must place the indicated limb on the indicated dot, then keep it there, or they are out. Eventually people will end up all crossed one over the other and, as the box says, "tied up in knots." Winning can be just a matter of being the last person standing, or the crafty player can position themselves so that other players won't be able to easily position themselves, causing them to fall and lose.

This game isn't that great if you only have under four people, but a crew of four or more can easily roll out the plastic bag and have a great time.

Customer Review: Tired of video games? Try this classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 14 year old son constantly berides us for remaining Nintendo-free. So imagine his surprise, when at his 14th birthday party his like-minded guests discovered "Twister," declaring it an "awesome" game.

We all know this goofy game, the one that "ties you up in knots." The boomer-echo kids haven't had the same experience with these silly games, and it is a real novelty to them. The funniest photos from said birthday party show these hip kids dissolving into giggles as the pile collapses on the mat.

There is even somewhat of an educational aspect to this game. To be successful, some advance planning and spatial relations skills are helpful in avoiding the inevitable collapse. This generation of kids has not always had the same level of hands-on spatial experience we enjoyed when tearing apart items from the junk heap. "Twister" is a fun way for kids to get some of this experience for themselves. As for their parents, I move MUCH more slowly with my 40-something muscles, but it's still a blast to play with the kids!
