Toys and Games Reviews of The Game of Life Twists & TurnsCustomer Review: Completely enjoyable!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This game is more fun than I imagined it would be!!! My kids can never get me to play Life with them because I hate all the hassle with parts and money everything, plus all the confusion, and then there is the spinner that usually doesn't spin well or flies across the board. I bought Life Twists & Turns because it intrigued me. The first time we played it we ALL fell in love with it. With the little "credit cards" it keeps track of money, life points, houses, cars, kids, EVERYTHING! It even adds it all up for you and determines the winner! No arguing, no confusion, just fun. And you can even choose how long the game will be by choosing how many "years" you will play....each spin equals a year....and you choose at the beginning of the game. Oh, and no spinner flying across the board either, it's electronic as well.
We play this game often and I actually enjoy playing it with the kids as well as with adults. It is sooooo much better than the original Life game!
Customer Review: Great game, but I would change a few things Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very fun game. It makes you think about how much you COULD be doing with your life, versus what little you actually ARE doing with it. Just thinking about that inspires me to live my life more to the fullest! So overall, this is a fun game to play.
However, I would change the ratio of "life points" to "money." In the instruction manual, it says that: "1 life point" is about equal to "100 dollars." In my opinion, it should be more like "1 life point" is worth "1,000 dollars." It should be ten times as much.
Why do I say that? Because getting married, having kids, traveling the world, and having adventures, are a better measure of "success" in life, than simply amassing large piles of money. Everybody knows that money is not the ultimate source of happiness. You can have all the money in the world, but if you don't have love, you have nothing.
So I think the game should reflect that. Other than that, fun game.
Customer Review: Great fun for family time. Summary: 4 Stars
My husband and I were pleasently surprised with this version of Life. Its much funner to play then the original. Those that complain about it teaching children the wrong values need to remember that its a game and its for entertainment purposes. It is our job as parents to explain the difference between earn it, learn it, love it, live it. If the family is spending an enjoyable time together, then it has succeeded.
The first time you play is a bit intimidating. My husband read the instructions and was worried, it was sounding complicated. However playing the quick 10 year game to start gets you into the groove and its becomes apparent that its easier then you think.
You can control how long you play by setting the years at the beginning of the game.
Word to the wise if you have a large family. The game is only setup for 4 players, we are a family of three so it works fine for us.
Customer Review: More realistic than the classic Game of Life Summary: 4 Stars
Twists and Turns lets you make more choices than in the original Game Of Life. You choose whether or not to get married/buy a house or have children. In the instructions for the game is a page of hints both in the game and in real life. This new version does not use paper money, instead it has a "LifePod" (a computer) that spins and keeps track of Money and Life points. Events, that in real life, usually lead to increased happiness (marriage, children, education, volunteer work, owning a home, etc) earn you Life points. At the end of the game, money is converted to life points at a random life point favoring ratio. The player with the most life points wins the game.
The one area I see for improvement would be to allow more players in the game. The game is for 2-4 players, instead of the 8 in the classic game.
Customer Review: Great Game! Summary: 4 Stars
My 10 year old son and I have really been enjoying this game. So what if Visa got their fingers into this game. At some point, your kids are going to have credit cards. Get with the program people.
My 10 year old had been begging me to buy this game for the past week after playing at a friend's house. He was prepared to spend $30 of his hard-earned money. I convinced him that we should check out the thrift stores. We bought this game this morning at the thrift store for $2.99. It is virtually brand new, and came with fresh batteries. They take cash, not credit cards. Going to the thrift store to buy this game was a good 'Life Lesson' for my kid. -Probably a better lesson than anything he could possibly learn playing this game.
-It's time to try to have another baby!
