Toys and Games Reviews of SorryCustomer Review: An introduction to strategy...and good sportsmanship Summary: 4 Stars
This game is a variation of Parcheesi. Rather than rolling dice to move around the board, you draw cards with numbers on them. However, some of the cards also have alternate instructions...such as being able to switch places with an opponent, split the count between two pieces, or move backwards to sneak into your home without having to go all the way around the board. Even very young children quickly learn to take full advantage of these options. I especially like this game because it's one of the few young children's games in which an adult can play seriously without "accidentally" making mistakes and STILL be beat by the 5-year-old! Action-wise, it's a little bit slow, but, hey...it sure beats Candyland!CAUTION: This may be the first time your children encounter sabotage as a game strategy, and tempers may flare. One of the most educational aspects of this game is that it gives you plenty of chances to talk about good sportsmanship and not taking a game too seriously. :o)
Customer Review: Good for kids age 4 and up Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I play this game with our 4-year-old twins (a boy and a girl). Before buying this game, we were actually considering buying some of those "non-competitive" games. You know, the ones where you work together to defeat a common enemy? My kids were having a lot of trouble with the concept of losing. I was a bit worried that this game would exacerbate that. However, we found that they actually LOVE this game. We instituted some rules, such as all players must shake hands at the end of every game and say "good game," and other rules enforcing good sportsmanship (e.g. no gloating or teasing). After just a little while of enforcing these rules, they have become second nature and now our kids are free to enjoy any game without feeling devastated if they get bumped back to start or don't win. They know there is always a next time. They really enjoy this game and ask for it often.
Customer Review: Sorry! board game Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fun game. It seems simple, the kid learns to play it fast, but it encourages thinking, planning, and strategy. It is also a great fun. My 7-year-old son enjoys it very much. Up to four players can play at a time, taking turns, so it's usually my son, me, my wife, and our cat. The good thing is that our son does not seem to be upset if he loses, as there is a lot of fun and ultimately luck that plays a big role, so you can be winning or losing until the last minute - therefore fun and intrigue are maintained until the last minute, while with other games it is clear who wins early in the game, and fun is lost.
The only downside is that the rules that come with the game are a little difficult to understand, there are some ambiguous instructions, but as you start playing, you figure that out using common sense.
Customer Review: This game was played by me as a child and now by my son. Summary: 4 Stars
It's the game of *sweet revenge*. Who wouldn't like this came, a game that as been played for decades and decades. I remember sitting in our sunny sunroom with my brother playing when we were both children, I am now a mother and a Family Daycare provider and my son (6 yrs) and the children I care for enjoy playing. After school my son and the older children run and get a game to play instead of turning on the tv and 7 times out of 10 they pick Sorry. This game can be played by children as young as 3 or 4 yrs and children that are as young as 101.This is a game everyone should own!!! I think I am going to go now, get my son and have a game of Sorry.
Customer Review: GREAT CLASSIC Summary: 5 Stars
I played Sorry as a kid & now I'm playing it with mine. The game can change dramatically with the draw of 1 card so sometimes it's hard for my 6 year old to handle it. We did change some of the rules to make a little easier on her at first. For instance: you do not have to get to home on exact count; we don't split the 7's & don't switch places on the 11 (I think it's the 11). This made it less confusing for a little one who can't read the instructions on each card but we added rules as we went along to make it more challenging. I KNOW WE'LL BE PLAYING THIS AS A FAMILY & my kids will play it with themselves & their friends FOR YEARS TO COME!!
