Toys and Games Reviews of Scrabble Diamond Anniversary EditionCustomer Review: Great game, but disappointed in Silver Edition Summary: 3 Stars
We have been addicted to Scrabble for years and have the game at home and on our boat. Even bought one in New Zealand while there on an extended stay. Our Deluxe version from home was well loved and needed updating. We bought the Anniversary addition to replace it, but we are somewhat disappointed.
The packaging of the game is great and easy to store, but...the bag is too small as the letters will leap out on their own. The "updated" coloring of the board is tacky for an "anniversary" edition. We love the new way the board swivels but hold on to your letter holder as they will be swept away with the turn of the board...didn't happen with old Anniversary board.
It would have been great if they would not have "cheapened" the look and feel of the game, provided a bigger bag...hmmm, provide a place for your Scrabble Player's Dictionary. We never play the game without one.
Customer Review: Diamonds are a word's best friend Summary: 5 Stars
Since the only other scrabble game I've owned is about 20 years old, I thought this was a wonderful improvement. I love the fact that the letters no longer slide all over the board if it gets accidentally bumped, I'm thrilled with the lazy susan device so that the game easily rotates from player to player, the drawers are convenient for storing the tiles and holders and I like the bright, cheerful colors. I'm also pleased with the foldability, the ease of transport and storage. It doesn't include a timer, but I already have one. I also don't miss the score pad as I just use looseleaf paper. Overall, I'm very happy with my new game and play it often at homes or even at coffee houses with friends. It's very user-friendly and a great way to keep those little gray cells procreating! So, if you're flummoxed or in a conundrum as to what to buy, I'd suggest this Diamond Edition Scrabble game. Have fun!
Customer Review: Easy tote, but will it last? Summary: 4 Stars
I have been playing my new Diamond Ed. Scrabble for a week now and I must say that I love how easy it is to store the product. All tiles and holders go right into drawers in the console. The colors are different, but I've gotten used to that rather quickly.
The drawers are just slightly too small to put your Official Scrabble dictionary into, not a required aspect of the case, but would have been nice.
The hinge that the game unfolds from seems a bit wobbly so I am not sure if this will stand up to a frequent player over time, but for the price I doubt it will break before you get your moneys worth.
The case has built in wheels so when you are playing it is easy to turn the table to the next player. A feature I love!
Overall, this product is much nicer than the standard board and I'd recommend it to all!
Customer Review: A great set Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this to have a game that the wife and I could play, or that we could play when we have another couple over for dinner or something. What I really like about it is that it's all self-contained in what appears to be a pretty sturdy, easily portable case. The letter tiles come in a nice felt bag, and there are two drawers built right into the game board that hold the tiles, the four tile racks and the instruction booklet. The case unfolds (held closed by magnets) to reveal a plastic grid with recessed squares for the tiles, so they don't slide around. Some purists complain about the change in colors or something, but it's all the same to me. The bottom of the case has integrated wheels that allow the board to spin in place, so you can rotate it from one player to the next.
At around $35, this is a very nice kit, for a great game.
Customer Review: Great edition Summary: 5 Stars
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are some super-serious-Scrabble-sticklers bringing down this 5-star product.
This is a great twist on the usual boring box game. The design actually invites play! What a concept. I enjoy word games and crossword puzzles and Scrabble puts that in a more social setting, and this edition of the game puts that in a portable package that brings others to the table.
The case/board is solidly constructed, and the drawers that keep the tiles, rails and rulebooks are very handy. You can set this game up in 2 minutes or less- making this game surprisingly spontaneous. The new rule book is well written and seems formatted almost like a video game manual, the helpful hints really aid new or rusty players. Scrabble is a great game and this edition is a great presentation of that game.
