Toys and Games Reviews of Game of Life

Customer Review: We love the new Game of Life!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had not played the Game of Life since I was a kid (a long time ago), but just played tonight with my Wife, 12 year old Son and 9 year old Daughter. Yes, the game is certainly more complex than it used to be, but so is modern life. We did struggle with the rules a bit but once we got rolling it all fell into place. We played for about two hours and had a wonderful time. I like the all the variables and options and the lifelike chance events like losing your job and having to start again. The opportunities it gave us for interaction and learning for the kids was great. We really liked it and will be playing again, soon I hope. PS, my 12 year old beat us by a handy margin. He ended up with 1.95 million after a long, productive and unchanging career as an accountant.

Customer Review: Random, Involved, and Unassembled
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a fairly fun game, but has several drawbacks. The goal is to get the most money. Money can be obtained by landing on certain spaces, stock, salary (which is random and from $20,000 to $100,000), and your job (which is also random). The game is almost entirerly luck. The only major descisions are purchasing stock, chosing a path, and choosing a job (if you go to college). The game is practically always determined by the highest salary, unless someone happens to land on a trade salary cards space. It does incorporate lots of things from real life, and is educational in that respect. The various pieces are time-consuming to set up and the spinner doesn't spin well. This game is best as a family / party game, but isn't usually worth playing.

Customer Review: That's life for ya!
Summary: 5 Stars

Terrific game. Once you play the game two or three times the instructions are stuck in your head till the millionth! When you first get it and are setting it up, it's tricky trying to put the cardboard disc into the turner and the little mountains also. It's fun trying to name the children. If you've played the game a coupe of times at different places you'll notice that it's a bit different. There is a newer version and an older one. The newer one has the stock on cards that you keep throughout the game and you don't get anything for your house or your children. The old one you play the stock for one turn and you get rewards for what you have in the end. I enjoy both of them equally and I think that life is a great game!

Customer Review: Life isn't fair
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is fun and also teaches childern that life is not fair.
One time my friend (while playing the game) was a cop with 90,000 slary (which is what I think is the most in the game) and later in the game she got a carrer change and was a computer consulted making only 30,000 (it was really funny)
It also helps young people learn the values of insurense<<one time my friend didn't get car insurese (in the game) and landed on a space where she had to pay $125,000 cuz she didn't have insurense
Another thing is that it teaches young people how expensvie they are like when u land on pay 10,000 dollars 4 each of your children for college
but most of all the game is lots of fun U gotta get it!!!

Customer Review: Lots of fun, but not like life..
Summary: 4 Stars

Our family likes playing this game. There is no skill involved, so kids can play as easily as adults.
The only negative in my mind is that jobs are based on luck. If you spend money (take out loans that you have to pay back with interest)to go to college, you don't really have any better chance of making more money. My husband always 'goes to college' and has never won the game! My son sees this, and skips college every time. Personally I would like a game that would encourage children to go to college, instead of thinking they can be a rockstar or sports hero and make more than the doctors and lawyers. Maybe it's just me, but I find it annoying in that respect.
Again, though, this is a fun family game.
