Toys and Games Reviews of Candy Land Castle Game

Customer Review: A NEW VERSION TO A CLASSIC! EXCELLENT GAME!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this for my 4-year-old. I wasn't too sure what to expect and I didn't know if this was going to be like the classic game. This game consists of a mini-castle, 4 gingerbread boards, and hard thick plastic playing peices with four shapes. There is no batteries required. The mini-castle is well built and has a candy cane lever that you pull for the peices to come out. To start, everyone (1-4 players) gets a gingerbread man card. The first player pulls the lever and a peice comes out of the bottom. If they have that peice (such as a red circle) they get to place it on their card. If they don't, it goes back in the castle. There is a circle opening at the top that you place the peice back into. The peices MUST be put back flat or they will get jammed. Then, the play continues until the winner gets their 4 peices for their card. It's REALLY cute! My son even likes to play by himself. I was hesitant at first to buy this, but if you can catch it a good price GO FOR IT!

Customer Review: It's okay...
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a very durable, well-made game with the whimsical candyland castle and the oversized gingerbread persons.

The game is played by placing the tokens into the chimney of the plastic candy castle and then using the candy cane lever to access the chute which spits out a token, one by one. Each player has a cardboard gingerbread man with four indented shapes (each shape is a specific color).

When it is your turn, you pull the lever and, if you have that specific shape indentation on your gingerbread board, you keep it and it's the next player's turn. If you do not need that piece, you place it back into the chimney and the game moves on.

This is a good, quick game for a child but my sons (age 5, 3, and 2) are quickly bored with it. The only thing they really enjoy doing is pulling the lever (so much that I'm afraid it'll break!). I really want to like this game but if the kids are bored, it's not really worth the purchase.

Customer Review: perfect for a very active and impatient 2 yr. old boy
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is durable and easy to understand for little ones. I have a four year old girl, and a two year old boy, I also watch a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old. This game interests all of them especially my 2 yr old boy. Most games are either two complicated are two easy to break for him. He loves this game and asks to play it every day.

I keep all the pieces and the game boards in a gallon size freezer bag and put in under the castle which I keep with all the other games.

I got it on sale right before christmas for around $6.00. But I would gladly pay much more for it now that I know what a great game it is. It is really helping him with some of his colors and shapes and just playing encourages him to use his words. He doesnt talk alot and this game helps him want to communicate more! Would be too easy for over three or even for some smart 3 year olds if they didnt have someone younger to play with.

Customer Review: Fun for the little ones
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3 yr old is too young to understand most board games so I thought we'd give this one a try. It's great! It comes with 4 boards (gingerbread men) that each have 4 different shapes on them. (Each one is different, like BINGO boards.) You put the little plastic shapes inside the castle turret and each player gets a chance to pull the candy cane lever to release a shape from the castle. If it fits on your board, you use it to fill in one spot on your board. Whoever gets their spots filled up first wins.

It's fun for the kids and adults too as well as a great learning tool that teaches shapes and colors that is very understandable for littler ones. We love it!

The plastic pieces seem very durable but I hope we don't lose them. There is no place to store them other than the castle turret. But if the castle gets tipped over, they go flying. That's one thing I think could have been better designed.

Customer Review: Fun, even for little guys!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son got this for his 3rd birthday and immediately fell in love with it. I have my two boys and two girls that I watch and they can sit down, all 4 of them and play together. They are 16 months to 3 years old and even the 16 month old loves to pull the handle and play with the shapes. This is the first game that I have found that actually keeps their attention and can be played in a peaceful manner. I couldn't believe it. The one thing I do not like is that there is no easy way to store it. It sits on our book case, but it would be nice if it came in a box that could be stored in a closet. The pieces fit in the chimney, and the gingerbread people fit in the back of the house but everything would spill out if you had to put it away. Other than that, and the relatively high price (from what I have been told) I think this is a great game and would be great on every toddler's wish list.
