Toys and Games Reviews of Candy Land Castle Game

Customer Review: Great introduction to Board Games
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for my daughter when she was 23 months old. She was in the process of learning her colors and shapes and I thought this game would help. She absolutely loved the game itself. Pulling the little lever to make the pieces shoot out was so much fun for her. At 23 months, she was too young to really play the game as it was intended but we used it as a learning tool and I would help her match the pieced to the boards and have her say the shapes and colors.
As she has gotten older I've started to teach her how to actually play the game according to the rules and it has really helped to teach her how to 'take turns'.

The castle itself is very durable. When I first opened the box I took one look at the lever and thought that it would be broken in no time. But it has withstood a lot of pummeling from my daughter and her young
cousins.

As for STORAGE: All the shape pieces fit into the castle and there is a place in the back of the castle for the gingerbread men boards to sit in. It stores very well this way.
Another cool feature is that the instructions are printed on the back of the gingerbread men so you can't lose them or have to keep up with an instruction sheet.

The only thing I didn't like about the game is that one of the shapes is kind of a 'club' shape that is difficult to describe to a toddler. I wish that Hasbro had just stuck to standard shapes for the game pieces.

Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and would definitely reccomend it for the toddler/pre-school crowd

Customer Review: Fun, Educational AND Durable
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't expect the vintage Candyland you remember as a child, but you can expect your little one to love, love, love this new game.

I wanted this game to teach my 2-1/2 year old about turn-taking and this game fit the bill and is super fun to boot. From the moment it was opened, he has played with it several times throughout the day and would play even longer if his baby sitters didn't suggest something else to move on to. He already knows shapes and colors and he still adores this game. Candyland Castle can be a fun way to teach shapes and colors.

I love that this game can also be played solo too. I set up his stuffed animal players with gingerbread pieces and my son plays for all of them. It keeps him happily contented all while learning good turn-taking manners. He is also quite hard on toys and this toy has held up beautifully for the almost two months we have had it.

The game includes six different colored shapes, plus two additional for a total of 18 shapes. A player pulls the candy cane lever to reveal his colored shape (purple oval, red square, yellow stop, green star, blue X) and then matches it to the gingerbread man's hands and feet. We have already lost two shapes, which sometimes leaves a threesome stuck in a loop, but it is easily fixed if you hold one piece out after a turn before putting it back in. If any more are lost, I am hoping that I can get additional shapes by contacting Hasbro directly.

Customer Review: Not sure what all the raves are about.....

we were a little bored with this game. I really wanted to like this, because I was avoiding regular candy land, to avoid another regular board game, but still had a sweet spot for it and so when I saw this, and it was so cute, I thought I had the answer to nodding to Candy Land in our game collection, but not buying another board game. However, I think my main mistake was not buying it sooner. The game is VERY basic and the rounds go VERY fast. My three year old is not even remotely challenged, and even though he seems to like playing it a few times in a row, we will be growing out of this very quickly. I wish we had bought this when he was 2 because my son has known his colors and shapes for well over a year and so we aren't even getting a learning experience out of matching the colored shape tokens to the game boards. It IS cute though, and the kids will be able to play it alone, so those are some positives. I paid $[...] direct from Amazon for this and that is fine, I would not pay much more, and all the stores still have this for over $[...]. My advice is just to buy it early, you can always put it away if your kids still seem too young, but once they outgrow it, it becomes a dust catcher.

Customer Review: Another great find - perfect for 1st time gamers!!

Wow!!! I'm blown away at the retail price on this thing. Again, I must have stumbled on some huge Amazon sale, because I paid about 75% less than what is being asked now, plus free shipping with Prime. I'm not sure I would have paid $25 for this game, as is nearly the price now, but it is definitely an excellent toy.

My daughter got this for Christmas, and we have played it nearly every day since then. Even my 19-month-old can play it, and it's for 3 and up!

It's not the traditional Candyland that you and I remember.

This is basically a Candy Castle where shapes are stored - you pull on the plastic candy cane (sorta like a slot machine, really) and a shape comes flying out. You match it to the shapes you have on your randomly selected gingerbread man shaped board. Whoever fills their card first, WINS! And since it's all luck, really, your child stands a very good chance of kicking mom or dad's tail time and time again. But the colors and shapes (triangle, octagon, square, star, etc.) are very educational. And it also teaches turn-taking.

Great first game!! Highly recommend -- but maybe not for the full retail price?

Customer Review: Adorable & Fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

As soon as my youngest daughter, who was 3 at the time, saw this online, she wanted it on her wish list. We bought it for her last Christmas.

It's a very cute, colorful, sturdy game. If you've ever played Barnyard Bingo, that's just about the gist of this game. Colorful shapes go into the castle, then everyone takes turns pushing the lever to dispense a shape that will, hopefully, go on his cookie. SIMPLE. The first one to fill up the cookie with shapes wins. You'll play it over and over and not go out of your mind.

My daughter was 3 when we got her this & it was self-explanatory for her to play it. I KNOW she could have played this at age 2, or even 1-1/2.

I only have one complaint & it's not a big one. The box has an open design. As you can see from the picture, the front is open. It would be nice if this were closed so no little parts would ever fall out. Generally, we'd put this away with the colored shapes inside the castle. If one of the kids gets careless and just throws the shapes into the box, they could easily fall out.

Overall, nice gift for ages 18 months to 4 yrs..
