Toys and Games Reviews of Purple Moon ShoesCustomer Review: Can't Return Fast Enough Summary: 1 Stars
Received these as a gift for our 7 year old with only the best intentions. My 11 year old also tried them. If the picture on the box was anywhere near reality then it would be a great toy and would blame no one for buying them. Followed direction and put them together. They are quite a pain to put together because you are supplied with a bag of 50 greasy elastic bands that need to be fed through hooked onto the shoes. Setup is different depending on the weight of the child which is understandable but its a hassle.
There is very little elastic stretch or 'bounce' with these. The picture on the box looks like you are bouncing off a trampoline and my guess is the kid in the picture actually is! The sad truth is you can probably jump higher and with more flexibility without the shoes than with on. They are also quite dangerous in my opinion. I made my daughter wear a helmet for the few minutes she tried them before giving up frustrated and I couldnt blame her. You can easily twist an ankle or worse with these.
Would you really let your kid jump as high as the kid in the photo with the shoes strapped to their feet with two weak velcro straps?
I really question the validity of the positive reviews on this one.
Customer Review: Total piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
these seemed like such a good idea and my daughter and her best friend were actually willing to spend their own hard-earned money on them. So we bought them and I spent an hour or so assembling the two pairs. Within an hour we knew they had to go back. First and foremost, the girls were totally disappointed in what they did. Blame the box, it's deceptive, but I was willing to chalk that up to real world education and would have let my daughter deal with the lesson. More disturbing was that we had to replace a half dozen or more of the black rubber bands within that time, they snapped. Now I know why they give you so many, it's not just for the heaviest kids (who proabably are too old for the toy to begin with.) It's so every time the kids use them an adult can spend time putting new bands on...until you run out. Needless to say, they went back the same day.
Customer Review: Fun within reason Summary: 4 Stars
Some of the other reviewers seemed to have expectations that they're going to gain some major altitude in these things. That's not really the intention... My kids really like them. When you jump around on them, it makes the jumper bounce everywhere they go, and they do gain a little height. But jumping (for kids) is just plain fun... this adds to it. And they're noisy, noisy, noisy, but aren't kids noisy anyway??? When they're outside jumping, I can hear them indoors... at least I know they haven't wandered off! We recommend them, as long as you don't think you're going to be able to jump onto the house with them. Also, be careful jumping on any slick surfaces, as a twisted ankle is likely to occur.
Customer Review: They're OK Summary: 4 Stars
My 11 yr old son got these Moon Shoes at Christmas and he plays with them a lot. He has ADHD and Sensory Integrative Dysfunction, and the bouncing really soothes him and gets him refocused. I don't think he ever expected to bounce very high; he seems to be happy enough with the bounce he gets. When he wants to play with them in the house, I send him downstairs to jump around on the concrete floor to save wear and tear on my hardwoods.
The downside for us has been that the bands have started snapping very frequently. At the rate he's going, he'll run out of bands long before he outgrows wanting to play with the toy. So if anyone hears of a way to get more bands, please speak up.
Customer Review: Might as well jump! Summary: 5 Stars
Don't let the picture fool you, these shoes DO NOT make you jump as high as the moon. In fact, even the most highly trained athlete wearing these shoes would only be able to jump as high as the clouds. While gravity and shoddy craftsmanship might limit your jumping potential, your imagination will allow you to leap to the stars! That's the best part about Black Moon Shoes -- it's not about how high you can or can't jump -- it's about how high you WANT to jump. So when it comes to using your imagination and developing important motor skills, Hart Enterprises' Black Moon Shoes are leaps and bounds above the competition.
