I wasn't sure if I would find the zhu zhu pet so I got this and my daughter (5) loves it. She also has a zhu zhu pet and she plays with both. This one doesn't make all the sounds, but it is nice it comes with a ball. It is much less likely to end up behind a piece of furniture. It also only uses one battery! I bought some of the 'clothes' that people were selling for the zhu zhu pets and they fit great! I also got one for my Grandma's cat. I am not sure if the cat likes it too much, but my Grandma (100) loves it as well!Customer Review: Glad I couldn't find a zhu zhu!

My 5-year-old wanted a zhu zhu pet for Christmas but all the stores were sold out, and I wasn't about to spend $20-$50 off other sites when I know they cost $8 at Wal-Mart. I bought this hoping it would satisfy her, and that it did!!! She loves her little "Hammy" and so do my other 3 kids. Beware, though --- it does suck up the hair fairly easily. My 7-year-old thought it would be cute to put it on my 1-year-old's head while it was on, and it pulled out a good chunk of hair. Live and learn. I got this toy from an odd store near my house and it wouldn't work with a new battery. I went back to the store and got a different hamusuta and it worked perfectly.
It is very cute and more realistic compared to the zu zu pets (looks more like a real hamster) however it doesn't change direction.
It fits my purpose of a gift for a friend who is living in a small dorm next year. Good product, but I don't know if the first hamusuta problem is common or not.

Sometimes, you don't know whether to laugh or cry. That is kinda how I feel about Hamusuta. He's a hamster, and a happy one at that. He isn't very durable, but he does work. I guess this would be great for someone in the 5-9 year old range, possibly an alternative to getting your son/daughter an actual hamster. Much less upkeep. There really isn't anything wrong with the product, but I just don't really see how viable this thing really is. Maybe I'm just missing the point.Customer Review: Brilliant Fun!

Several years ago I bought this in England for my son on a trip over there, they had it in Hambleys the toy store, so I probably overpaid, but it was worth it. My son loves it, at around the same time he had a real live pet hamster, so it was clearly a hamster phase. He also got his hair caught in the wheels and was running around with the hamster on his head, one of those childhood memories...... We still have the hamster, use it to tease the cat sometimes.
