I bought this hoping to give my six children some extra holiday cheer and cut back on their sugar intake this Christmas, but I couldn't figure out how to make the dang thing work. I'm pretty sure that this is due to a design flaw, not a single instance of a defective product. It doesn't come with any assembly hardware or mounting instructions, which really complicates matters. For a while I had it propped up in a doorway, but my youngest child managed to tip it over and the hook end of the cane fell onto her shoulders, trapping her like an ox in a yoke. My husband thought it was pretty funny but it wasn't really the kind of holiday fun I had in mind so I made him take the cane outside.
Amazon's description said that this was suitable for exterior use, but with no spike on the bottom or anything, it was really hard to get the candy cane to stand up straight. Every little gust of wind would knock it over, and it got all scratched up and some of the red paint flaked off right away. Finally, I dug a hole about 6" deep and put the base of the candy cane in the hole and used some rocks to support it, but that left me with only about 2 feet of usable plastic candy cane. Plus, having it situated like this has made it very appealing to the neighborhood dogs, and the base of it is now stained yellow and the whole thing stinks to high heaven.
I'm thinking of just throwing the thing in the trash, but having spent almost $60 on it including shipping I still want to find a way to get some holiday fun out of it. But if you're thinking of getting one for yourself, don't!! This thing has never worked right from the day we got it and I feel totally ripped off.
