Toys and Games Reviews of Webkinz Polar BearCustomer Review: I Love Webkinz Summary: 4 Stars
I happen to love Webkinz. There are a lot of technical problems but NOT on Webkinz side. It depends on the type of computer you have. You must have a computer that can handle Java Script (most can but some older computer can't comprehend it). Sometimes if you are trying to access the sit through AOL you may not be able because AOL has a hard time handling the Java Script as well. I normally access it through Internet Explorer and have no trouble at all.
The site is a lot of fun. There are numerous games ranging from puzzles to cards to basbeall. There's secret recipes that children can make using there stove. Children get to express themselves by decorating their room for the pet. You can go shopping and go hunting for gems. There is so much to do and it never gets old.
I highly suggest buything this for someone who knows how to use the computer. I would not suggest this gift to a 5 year old but someone around the ages of 9-13 because the site is slightly hard to navigate (you get used to it) and the games are challenging.
Customer Review: The Stuffed Animal that Comes with Screen Time Summary: 3 Stars
Webkinz stuffed animals come with a code that allows the user to register the "pet" on a website. Your child can name the pet, decide it's gender, and then log on to play with it. So, you are not just buying the stuffed animal, you are also buying access to a website that gives you virtual money to buy pet supplies and virtual locations in which you can feed, groom, and entertain your pet. I am assuming while you do this the "real" stuffed animal sits alone in another room. The virtual animal has a meter that lets you know how happy and well-fed it is. If you neglect it, it will suffer (or at least become less happy).
I suppose some could argue this is a good way to teach children about the responsibility of pets or to let them feel as if they have a real pet (but without the mess).
Consumers who object to excess use of video games and tv, probably should opt for a traditional stuffed animal that does not come with a virtual counterpart that requires the use of a computer.
Customer Review: Nice toy and idea, clumsy and overly paranoid web interface Summary: 3 Stars
The toy's great, the website's fine - my kids love getting on the site - but jeez louise, you'd think Webkinz was the Federal Reserve Bank the way they make it so difficult to create a web account, log on, and save your passwords! You can't change passwords, EVER. You can't change the name of your toy, EVER. You can't change the name of the toy's owner, EVER. (I got two of our toys mixed up and registered one of them in the wrong child's name: too bad, no way to ever fix that.) If you lose that slip of paper that came with your toy, you're out of luck, FOREVER - there's no online registration so that you can recover your information. It's almost as if they WANT you to lose your information so that you'll have to buy another new toy and start from scratch. It's those inane and un-user-friendly policies that cause me to rate this toy a three.
Customer Review: Webkinz Polar Bear-Great! Summary: 5 Stars
Webkinz is a great website! It has tons of fun games, lots of room theme options, clothes for your pet, and suprises around every corner. This is coming from a 10 year old! I have four- a Lil' Kinz Panda named Lola, a Polar Bear named Ava, a Pig names Lucy, and a Black Cat named Midnight. I would recommend this sight for anyone ages 4 and up! I know a lot of adults who play with their kids' Webkinz, too. I must warn you it is a very addictive website, though, but overall FUN! The animals are really cute. I have had two friends whose Webkinz (a Googles and a Cocker Spaniel or Golden Retriever) had a small hole in it when they played with it for a while, but they are quite easy to repair. None of mine have had any damages and they seem to have very nice quality. Webkinz Rock!!!!
Customer Review: Webkinz stuffed is great-the website is horrible Summary: 4 Stars
The learning process and everything that is involved with the webkinz plush is great. The problem is their website-we have a bran new top of the line computer less than 3 months old. It doesn't matter- they still have a lot of technical issues with the website. The website is not working approximately 25% of the time.
When you compromise with your children (ex) clean up your room and you can have 1/2 hour online with webkinz- the child goes on the website and doesn't work. After this happens about 3-4 times the child becomes uninterested.
You just spent 12.95 and have an expensive not worth 12.95 plush.
When the website does work, it is a great tool for parents.
