Toys and Games Reviews of Scrambled States

Customer Review: Thumbs Up
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the game my nine year old son brings out when it is game time as his favorite. I have to admit that I've never been really up on my geography, so this has helped all of us review the locations, capitals and nicknames of the fifty states. After playing it repeatedly, some of the "challenge" cards start to get repetitive, so I do wish there were more (or a booster pack) to help keep the game fresh. A single game goes by pretty quickly, and can be easily adapted for younger kids or beginners (just let anyone who meets the criteria in the challenge card win the card, rather than just the person who puts down their card first). You have our recommendation!

Customer Review: An educational and very fun game
Summary: 5 Stars

I gave this to my 4 year old gifted son last Christmas and for the 2 months following, all he wanted to play was Scrambled States. Good thing it is such a great game otherwise Mom and Dad would have gone mad! He has always had a geography interest so this game suited him perfectly. However, even my 9 year old nephew who is struggling to learn the capitals at school, loved it. What a great thrill to see him learning several of the capitals and nicknames after only 2 games. The directions and concepts are very easy to understand and best of all it's fun! This is a great game that could very easily find it's way into classrooms across America.

Customer Review: Fun and Learning at the same time!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Scrambled States of America is a great game to play for learning the States and Capitals as well as other factoids about the states. The book that it is based on is a fun companion. I got it from the library with the CD and the student I tutor listened to it in conjunction with playing the game. The pictures are fun and quirky--very KID APPEALING. It's a definite winner. Fun by itself and then for the academic value too. My tutee (grade 4) so liked it and it really makes you learn, without thinking, those states and capitals that are kind of fuzzy. The story that serves as the backdrop is a really creative idea. TOTALLY RECOMMEND!

Customer Review: Love this game!
Summary: 5 Stars

We loved the book; now we have the game to love too! My boys are 5 and 6 years old and can't get enough of this game. It's fun and we're all learning something too! The playing time is quite short so it's easy to squeeze in a round or two before bedtime and also gives everyone a chance to win a hand. Our only wish for improvement: more! More cards would make this even more fun.

We took this game to Family Game Night at the boys' martial arts school and it was a hit! I'm actually ordering one right now for a friend of ours who played it that night and has a birthday this week.

I highly recommend this game.

Customer Review: Fun and educational
Summary: 4 Stars

The game is fun and fairly lighthearted. It is educational, but not painfully so. There are a stack of "question" cards, that mostly help the player become more familiar USA states, capitols, and state mottos. The rules say the first to answer wins ties, which keeps the energy level up while playing. Some of the question are deliberately easy - allows the younger players to win a few.

Recommended for kids 8 and older (but could probably be played by some 6 year olds). This is particularly good for 5th graders who have to learn the states and capitols. We have donated this game to classrooms where it has been well received.
