Toys and Games Reviews of Scrambled States

Customer Review: Great Fun and educational game
Summary: 5 Stars

My son (6 years old) loves this game. It is the one that he asks to play most often. We read the book by L. Keller first (although it is not a requirement to play the game). If you do read the book however, it explains why all of the states are scrambled and why they have to be sent home. The game requires that you can read. You need to be able to read the name of the state, the state's capital and it's nickname. During the course of the name you will need to locate, for example, any state in your current pile, which has a capital which has 3 or more syllables. The player who can locate the state in his/her pile that match the specified criteria first, can send the state home. The player with the most states sent home at the end of the game wins!

Customer Review: Great Fun for All Ages
Summary: 5 Stars

My nephews, ages 10 and 5, love to play this game when they come over. The 5 year old needs a little help and some extra time, but loves it just the same. My older kids often join in because it is really a lot of fun. It's a great way to learn about the states without even realizing that it's an "educational" game! I also bought the two books and they are lots of fun to read! We really like the "I live there!" rule since my nephews live in another state! I like that it is a compact card game that is easy to store, and can be played anywhere. There is no large board to set up or dice to lose! There are also a lot of fun and quirky drawings on the cards that add to the game's appeal.

Customer Review: too much fun to handle
Summary: 5 Stars

My 10yo and 13yo are constantly asking me to play this game and I love it too at 46yo. You take a small map of the US and get 5 cards with state names and cute pictures. Some states are wearing sunglasses and smiling. Then as matches are turned up from the draw pile, you have to slap first and be right. One question might be which state borders the pacific ocean or which state nickname has 4 vowels. If yo make a mistake it is a slip slap and you have to give back one of the state cards you already won. This game is durable, educational and fun. The box is only about 3 inches by 6 inches and could travel well anywhere. My 10yo has learned alot about geography already! Well worth the money.

Customer Review: quick paced, educational family fun
Summary: 5 Stars

My 6 year old received this game for Christmas. We have played it several times as a family. Everyone enjoys it because it involves both quick reflexes, knowledge & some luck. Because I am trying to assist the learning process, we ask each person to say the name of the capital and the state as they earn each card. My 10 year old has not learned capitals yet although she has studied US Geography. She has an advantage over my 6 year old can recite the "State Song" but has begun learning the locations of the states as well as the capitals through playing this game. I highly recommend this game for grade school children, or anyone who could use a refresher on US states & capitals.

Customer Review: Have Fun While Learning!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this game to use as geography enrichment for our homeschool. It is a great way to teach kids state location, capitals, etc. I use it with my 7 and 10 year olds, and both caught on very quickly. The rules are simple enough that you can basically open the box and start a game. It's a great way to increase your child's awareness of directions and where the states are in relation to each other and the oceans. There is some knowledge of basic directions (N, S, E and W) required, and the maps are not labeled, so I wrote the directions on one of the key maps for my directionally-challenged child.

It's fun, too! The kids don't see it as an "educational" game.
