Toys and Games Reviews of Scrambled States

Customer Review: Buy this product!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful game. I can't speak highly enough about it. I purchased this game along with the mathcing book for my 6 year old son. He loves geography anyway so it was a good fit. Even though the game is targeted for 8 years old and up, my 6 year old has no problem playing. This game is a good way to encourage kids to learn the states and their location. It also has capitals and state nicknames included. My son can now just look at the shape of most states and be able to know which state it is. As part of the game, each player gets 5 state cards and then has to match it up with the scrambled card that is in play. The cards will say things such as caiptal starts with A or B, or the state name will have to have so many letters or syllables. Then there are distance cards that you have to measure the distance and see who has the state closest to the one in play. It is a lot of fun and educational. I would highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Scrambled States
Summary: 5 Stars

My 11 year old son and I had tried the Scrambled States game at a school function and enjoyed it. There's lots of incidental learning in SS - you might learn the capital of a state or a state motto or, in general, where states are in the US simply by game play. It's a fast paced game and you can get through one game in 10-15 minutes if you follow the basic rules.
I wish there was a little more to the game or that some of the cards were a little more knowledge based rather than cutesy. For example, one of the card says "Find a state that is purple" which doesn't help you learn too much about the state, but more about identifying colors. That gears it to younger kids and some easier answers but, Missouri isn't purple, just the card!

I would recommend Scrambled States for anyone who is able to read fairly simple instructions / cards and follow directions. It's a great family based game and easy to set up, play and complete.

Customer Review: No Experience needed!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a sucker for slipping in education when kids aren't looking! This game gets participants noticing everything from colors, ABC's order, comparisons and contrasts (looking at the states individual details as well as the map as a whole), to measurement skills and to syllables and sneaks in US Geography too! My not yet reading 5 y.o. is able to play his own hand after two weeks of the game in the house!!! (We all help eachother anyway). Absolutely no prior US knowledge needed as all questions are based on the map and cards in the deck. (Even my adult English language learners enjoyed the challenge of practicing the language concepts to "prove" how much language they have mastered---or not!!! :) The fun definately overrides the "drag" of studying geography with this game, but the more facts you learn the better chance you have to WIN, so motivation is high to keep learning!!! Great value for the price, too.

Customer Review: Are state nicknames that important? I think not.
Summary: 4 Stars

Well, we bought the game because of the glowing reviews. My two daughters (ages 9 and almost 5) and I played it right away and we had fun! I think we learned some geography too. But I found that lots of the cards related to the state's nickname. I would have preferred if the biggest three cities in each state were there instead. For instance, since Springfield is the capitol of Illinois, the child will not connect Chicago to Illinois at any point in the game. If I were to choose three facts for each state (which is basically the amount of info in this game) I would like them to know where it is, what the major cities are, and lastly/leastly the capitol of the state. SO, I thought that the illustrations were endearing, the actual method of play was fun and varied, but the content was lacking. That's why I give it 4 stars. I may change the cards myself to suit my preferences! Hmmmm...

Customer Review: We play this game like a sport
Summary: 5 Stars

We love this game. We play hard and fast. And frequently laugh our heads off. Most of the reviews talk of small children enjoying it, but my teenagers (who started playing with me when they were younger) and I play regularly, and sometimes even injure ourselves by slapping so vigorously. We have altered the rules somewhat over time (e.g. - you get only one card on a Go The Distance card instead both) and made up some new ones (e.g. - if you have all different colors you get a card, but only once per game). Changes are made by majority rules. We love it so much that we expect that we love it more intensely and play it more vigorously than anyone in the whole country. (BTW - Other house rules: Kansas is not West of Kansas and Tennessee does touch Tennessee)
